How did you became a Cavs fan? For those who are not from Cleveland.

Ben a fan since I was 7. Was there at the beginning in 1970; Walt Wesley, Bobby Washington, Luther Rackley, Steve Patterson etc. Growing up in Cleveland in that time and listening to Joe Tait on the radio w/ the gane on cold winter nights in February. Austin Carr, Lenny Wilkens..the teams were mediocre but it was the NBA.

The Miracle In Richfield in the 75-76 season was electric. People didn't mind stuffing the Richfield Coliseum to see the Cavs on that roll into the playoffs w/ Nate Turmond providing leadership even though he was on his last legs. The series against the Bullets was as an exciting playoff series as could be done; 7 games and down to the last seconds. The city was a madhouse. Then Chones gets hurt and they fall valiebtly against the Celtics. We should have won the title that year.

Ted Stepien. Ugh. I remember Bob Dolgan of the PD as his press apologist while he destroyed the Cavs in his tenure. People don't realize how close we came to Stepien moving the team to Toronto. Dark, dark days.

George Karl, World B. Free and another team that had no business going on a run after a 2-17 start and took the Celtics to the limit in their 5 gamer.

Much more of course, but I've been a Cavs fan forever and always a fan of Cleveland sports. Wouldn't have it any other way.

The bold, a thousand times over. We've had our fair share of #1 picks over the years, but when I saw the ping pong balls fall in our favor this year, the complete euphoria was incomparable to anything I've experienced in life. Not even sex can trump that kind of feeling. Then when LeBron came home, it was no sleep for 48 hours. There's nothing in life, and I mean nothing, that can give you the spine-tingling, rapturous rewards that being a die-hard, loyal sports fan can.

You ok?

Call me overzealous, but that's simply how I feel. That specific excitement, joy and satisfaction can't be felt doing anything else.

My friend bought me a copy of NBA Live 07 two years after it came out as a Secret Santa gift. Until then, I had no connection to professional sports at all. But I got hooked on the game, so I started watching the NBA during the 2009 playoffs. Like many I became enamored with LeBron's play. I saw the Cavs as an underdog back then despite their huge regular season success - they were an exciting team but didn't have the credibility of the Lakers and Celtics. I think Game 2 of the ECF against the Magic cemented my Cavs fandom - I ran around the house screaming after LeBron hit the game winner. At some point I started searching around the Internet for places to discuss Cavs basketball and I stumbled upon RCF. I probably lurked for a few months before joining at the beginning of 2010, just in time for the Amare Safari. I live in Warriors territory so my friends initially ragged on me for bandwagonning, which I totally did, but I think after sticking with the team through the hell that was the last 4 years I can officially say I bleed wine and gold.

Thank you for this thread. It's helping me learn who the fake fans are so that I don't have to put any stock into a thing they say.

I've pretty much ignored everybody who has joined in July or August unless they prove not to be a team hopping POS.

Agh, the stigma of the notorious July 2014 join date...

It was probably around 2003, when lebron came into the league. It was my first time seeing a coverage of the NBA draft and my curiosity about a guy coming from high school and going # 1 in the NBA. I also saw his NBA debut vs sacramento wherein he was just amazing as an 18 yr old. I was hoping for the team to make the playoff that year too since i think we were around few games away in feb for a playoff spot. Then i started learning more about the city's other team sports and how the franchise has been on a championship drought for more half a century. I followed James to be honest then i kinda like The cavs over the year as well as there identity under mike brown, which was defense oriented first team. I was hoping for some kind of upset during the 2007 finals and was really piss at orlando durng the 2009 playoff run.

Yeah hated james when he went to miami and thats where i followed the cavs more closely than before. I discovered this site around 2011, just in time for the draft. Then Irving came and it was a love affair for me haha began to watch the cavs game everytime i have the chance. I am from the philippines so mostly to say most games are done during the morning so i really wake that early just to watch the game. its frustrating everytime i see us lose a big lead then lose the game eventually. However, as i reflect over the last 2 months, its safe to say that those lossess and heartbreaks eventually lead us to this team. I cried actually after reading james leter and hearing im coming home song the next few days haha. Already have an irving jersey, gonna buy some bron, love then dion. If i can see a delly jersey, i might buy too.

My username tells it all. I'm shameless i know. :chuckles:

I grew up in Columbus but was always a Browns and Indians fan. My father grew up in Cleveland and was good friends with Dante Lavelli of the Browns. When the Cavs came into existence in 1970 I was there for the first home game and been a fan ever since. So following the Browns faithfully since 62 and the Cavs since their inception.

Well, first of all, I'm Rager's "little" brother. :king:

Another portuguese who loves Cleveland and especially the Cavaliers. Just like every time in my life I was influenced by my brother, every night he was watching NBA and I always questioned why the fuck did he care so much about some team in the other side of the world.

I began to watch it more closely, some highlights, some mixes on Youtube, and then watched every Playoff series of that year. I was kinda meh back then, I just loved the game, the intensity, I didn't care that much about Lebron, always loved Delonte West.

Ironically became an hardcore fan after the Decision, I guess I love the underdogs and...god, I loved Kyrie Irving. I mean, since Allen Iverson (the only player I always truly "loved") that I've never seen such talent. He's so crafty, so amazing. After that I just watched every game, started reading RealCavsFans and completely fell in love with the city, the people and the team (despite being complete garbage).

Here in Portugal I'm always wearing my Cavaliers jerseys, I'm mostly known for loving Cleveland than by anything else. :chuckles:

Cheers everyone!

Short & sweet...Grew up in Canton, my Dad took me to Richfield to see Dr. J play against the Cavs in 1977, have been a huge Cavs fan ever since, have lived in Florida, Kentucky and now New Jersey...always keeping one eye on NE Ohio.

Parents were both born and raised in the Cleveland area. Dad was a casual Cavs fan. I took a bigger liking to them than he did.

became an NBA fan when i saw LBJ play his first game on TV.. been a fan of the cavs since then.. hated LBJ when he left and embraced the cavs eversince..

To me this is a real fan... It doesn't matter why you started watching.. It matter why you kept watching.

A previous poster said they don't understand "blind loyalty" and is just a fan of LeBron. I'm a big fan of Andrew Wiggins as many of you know, I'll watch him play for the Wolves; but I'd rather Wiggins break his spine than the Cavaliers not win the Finals.

*Before someone emotes their inner-vagina, no I don't want anyone to get seriously injured, but I wouldn't mind if someone blew their knee out or sprained their ankle and it meant we won a title.. Sorry, but my fandom runs deep.
