How did you became a Cavs fan? For those who are not from Cleveland.

That's corny bro. How can you follow a player for 8/9 years and not grow attached to the team he plays for as well? I became a Cavs fan when Kyrie got drafted in 2011 and even moreso when Dion got drafted in 2012, but over time after watching every single game I grew to like the team just as much as the individuals (Kyrie & Dion).

Even if Dion/Kyrie got traded I'd still remain a Cavs fan and root for them because I like the team. I'd root for their new teams as well but I wouldn't just turn my back on Cleveland.

Cleveland Born and Raised, Texas is where I make my money - Been down with the Cavs since Hot Rod.

Sports are more about representing your hometown to me, Especially in a city that 50% "out of towners"

All of these "Player Fans" aka Bandwagoners can eat a dick and go back to Miami with that bullshit - We don't need you and, we don't want you here.

This thread has been invaluable for who to put on ignore.

I beg your pardon! I have stated that I am a typical bandwagon fan. I came a board with Shawn Kemp, and have stayed. In Europe we do not have any hometown NBA teams to support and I have no connection at all to the city of Cleveland, except I really care about the Cavs. I could not care less about Browns or Indians. It is the Cavs I love to follow.

So, if you still want to call out certain members on RCF as not wanted here, I think you should try to exclude the not so small amount of international RCF members! Probably there are other RFC members in the US that you also should exclude and apologize to because they too have rational cases to be good and faithful Real Cavs Fans!

I may be overstepping by speaking for Houston, but I believe he means fans who followed LeBron to Miami and then followed him back here. Someone who has been a Cavs fan, non stop, since the late 90's is not who he is talking about.

I wouldn't worry if someone "calls you out". It's just an internet tough-guy routine that should be ignored.

That being said, I think that comment was directed at fans who change teams as the players change. That's not you anyway.

My parents moved around a lot during my childhood. I wasn't really interested in watching sports and never had a home team I followed. Once my family moved to Cleveland I was at some games, but never considered myself a fan.

I remember watching the Christmas game vs the Lakers in 2009. The Cavs were shitting on them. Lakers fans started throwing promotional foam fingers down from the stands onto the court, and the camera switches to Lebron rallying the team. It's strange to describe but it was that moment which inspired me to follow the Cavs and basketball in general. It wasn't just that the Cavs were winning- of course winning is fun- but I felt like I was clearly missing out on something bigger than me happening right where I lived. After that I came to appreciate the sport.

I don't know a lot about the game, but I am sort of "the Cavs guy" now in my circle.

Love reading each and everyone's story. I think mine is similar to some but I'll share anyway. I'm from Melbourne, Australia. I was pretty much born into the sport of basketball, being a filipino, that's what our favourite sport is/was. My dad is a die-hard Celtics fan, my older brother a die-hard Spurs fan, I remember growing up knowing only about Michael Jordan. In Australia, in the 90s all we'd get to see on NBA was the NBA Finals. Those were the only games shown on TV for us. So yeah, I'd say I was a Jordan fan because of that fact (not knowing how much Cavs fans hated him haha).

Anyway fast forward to 2003, I remember reading about this High School phenom, LeBron James. And I remember reading something like "The next best thing since Michael Jordan". And that stuck to me, so I became an instant fan of his and by default, a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Over the years though, I became more of a fan of the team. I followed every draft, every trade, every signing. Just seeing our front office build around our franchise player, it made me happy and sad. Some things panned out and some didn't. But I was enjoying watching them, especially reaching the Finals in 2007 only to get swept by my brother's Spurs team (and not hearing the end of it). We failed so many times years after and as 2010 soon approached, I remember thinking to myself "there's no way LeBron is leaving his home state...no way."

And what do you know, he does leave.... but that is where my love for the Cavs grew way more than it had ever been. I just wanted to see us prove that we didn't need him. I kept rooting for him to lose like most of us did and for us to keep winning. And as we all know that didn't happen. But through the tough 4 year stretch, countless safaris, my hopes grew stronger, we were building the right way. We now have Kyrie Irving, Lebron has returned and Kevin Love on the way. I just can't wait for us to finally celebrate a Championship. From Melbourne, I'll be celebrating with every Cavs fan around the world. I have a feeling this year is the year. CLEVELAND CAVALIERS 2014-15 NBA CHAMPS!!!

pretty much. if you came here because of X player (or apparently coach), and stayed... you're not going on the frying pan.

OK, then why is this thread relevant for you?

This sums the whole topic up for me. PERFECT post.

If you are a dick-riding player fan who just roots for "The guy who is popular at the moment" with no real allegiance to his city, you are not welcome here. This forum is called REALCAVSFANS, not parttimecavsfansdependingonwhoisplayingforthemthisseason.com. Any post or thought you may have about our organization will fall on deaf ears here. This is not the place for you. Go post on the cavfanatic site with all of the other player and part-time fans.

Any fan of any player or team is welcome here as long as they post quality instead of mind numbing shit. And as long as they don't bother trying to tell true Cavs fans how to root for their team.

I understand how many of you guys think about "bandwagon" fans as you call them and i respect that. Me personally i am European fan (Greece) of the sport and as my username suggests, a fan of Love. Soccer is a big tradition in my country and i am a loyal fan of my local soccer team (die hard fan), so i think that i can understand pretty well how you guys feel about "seasonal" fans coming along. But as an outsider that is now starting to get instersted about Cavs, i would like to bring in a different perspective of how to look at this. I would be very proud for my home team if so much interest was coming about it from every corner of the earth even if it is beacuse of recent signings. A lot of us foreigners could end up loving the team at the end and becoming Cavs for life. I would feel honored if something like that was to happen to my local football club here in Greece for example. That's my humble perspective on this matter as a simple outsider.

p.s I would like to thank this "internet corner" for taking us in and giving us the opportunity to learn more about the Cavs history and franchise. Excuse my poor English, realcavsfans.
