I have lost my Semih... [signs in Turkey for next 2+ years]

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

Samuels has been fouling a lot in his limited play too...

Anyways fouls happen when you don't have your basketball legs back.

Definitely not comfortable yet. He looks a little lost. He puts forth the effort though, I will say that.

All of that being true, he still looks MUCH better than Hollins. If he can get fit and stay healthy, I think he has the potential to be a solid backup C. But at this point that's a big if.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

I'm missing Samardo ...

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

I'm not. The thing I like about Erden is that he doesn't drag his team down even if he is not yet up to speed entirely. It's not like he's calling for the ball in the low post on every posession and turns it over constantly like Samuels did. I like Erden's ability to at least get to the basket with some nice moves and draw fouls.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

Erden is not in game shape, has practiced with the team 3 times total, and is wearing a hand brace on his shooting hand. The fact that he's even getting a look right now, before he's really ready, suggests how disappointed Scott is with Samardo and Hollins.

I am not expecting Erden to be great, but he is at least trying to be active (sets a lot of screens, for example), and it seems like Scott is going to give him a good look.

The other side effect of playing Erden now is that it may push Samardo to work harder and get in shape himself.

Samardo gets to the basket and to the foul line more easily than Erden has, or probably ever will. Samuels is much stronger around the basket.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

The second unit needs some inside scoring, and Samardo can provide that. I don't have a problem with giving Erden an extended look to see if he can work his way back in to shape and start providing us something as well... but his 0 field goals so far ... hurts.

I mean this is his combined line so far:

34 minutes, 0-2 FG, 3-8 FT, 4 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl, 0 blk, 3 to, 11 pf, 3 pts

And here's what Samardo is averaging per36:

36 minutes, 4.2-8.8 FG, 6.7-9.6 FT, 6.3 reb, 0.4 ast, 2.1 stl, 0.4 blk, 5.4 to, 8 pf, 15.1 pts

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

I like Erden's size and mobility. He just needs to settle down and have more time to gel with the second unit.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

Erden is a smart player who understands his role but he doesn't have the highest skill level. I don't understand why his conditioning is such a problem. Understand not being in top notch game shape but he had a broken thumb. He should still have been able to stay in good condition since that didn't at all prevent him from running or cardio work.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

Even after adjusting for the fact he hasn't been back for long, Erden is the worst nba player I've ever seen. Put samardo back in immediately.

Ryan Hollins begs to differ.

Sadly, I think you're serious & you truly believe this. Either you are a young S.O.B or you just started watching basketball.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

The way Samardo is being treated this year is my #1 knock on Byron this year. Erden looks like he'll be a decent player. Nice having some size in there.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

Wasn't the Lakers game one of Hollins' few gems last year? We could have tried dusting him off to help defend Bynum and Gasol... at least he was rested.
