I have lost my Semih... [signs in Turkey for next 2+ years]

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

Even after adjusting for the fact he hasn't been back for long, Erden is the worst nba player I've ever seen. Put samardo back in immediately.

What? Are you smoking crack? First of all, that's Hollins. Second of all, Samardo has all but disappeared in his last couple games, and has obviously done something to deserve his spot on the pine train. I trust Scott.

Also, Erden deserves continued development time for the same reason Hollins did last year -- you cant teach 7 foot.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

looks like he's having a pretty good night stat wise. unfortunately i don't have cable, so can anyone comment on his game.

He's looked really good tonight. Playing like a true blue big. He's hustled, went up with power and in general has finished around the basket.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

He looked really good, except for his lack of rebounding. Definitely making huge strides and getting into game shape.

Re: Semih Erden returns to practice

He had his right hand tapped up, so I think he's playing with a handicap a little. He's also really slow so he picks up a lot of fouls. Otherwise, he can take a guy into the post and get the slam/hook, but bigger and more physical guys will make it rough. So he can't always get position like he wants.

Take what you will of my comments, but he's a 10th man off the bench at best from my opinion.

If he achieves that, especially as the Cavs get better, I'm sure the Cavs would be thrilled. At the very least, it seems that he's getting a little stronger as games go by. He was the only Cav with a positive +/- tonight (I know, I know) and was their 3rd leading scorer. I don't know if we'll see that again, but it was something.

I thought he showed some finesse around the basket. He makes some plays look easy and has a decent touch. He is not a bruiser, he is slow (and I imagine he won't get that much faster as he rounds into shape), and he is not a leaper. He is also not a turnover machine like Samardo, and he is active if not always effective on defense. If he starts rebounding better, Samardo and Hollins are going to have to work a lot harder to get back in the lineup because he does not hurt the team in ways that are as obvious.

I'm glad Byron has been patient with him. I'm sure he wishes Erden had been healthy all summer and could have improved like Gee. But it's best to figure out what his players are capable of. Tonight Erden showed a lot of good things, and he cut down on the fouls. Pretty much the highlight of the game from a Cavs perspective.

IMO, it's way too early to make a judgment on this guy. He's been injured pretty much ever since he got here. If he never gets healthy he'll never be useful. But if he does get healthy, and gets a chance to settle in with the team, he might be a useful backup center.

Re: Semih Erden

Erdin played good against a team weak on big men. how he does against chicago with his confidence will tell us alot

Re: Semih Erden

Everyone, when filling out your All-Star ballots, remember it is Semih with a 'h' at the end of it.

Re: Semih Erden

Ppl calling him Semeh or Erdin, it's fucking SEMIH ERDEN, damn it's not that hard to learn it!

Re: Semih Erden

Who wants a shirt?

Boobie's make me Semih

or

I've got a Semih for Kyrie

Really though, he looked good last night. I'll take it with a grain of salt as GS has some awful defensive bigs, but he showed some encouraging signs. Had a few nice moves around the basket. Hopefully he can stay healthy the rest of the season and get some burn so we can see if anything's there. I certainly don't anticipate him to turn into starter material, but I could see him being the 4th guy in a 4 man big rotation in the near future.

Re: Semih Erden

He has done the one thing I needed, Hollins who?

Re: Semih Erden

I thought Semih showed us some nice things last night. Good footwork on offense while also attacking the goal like a big man should. It was nice to see him thump a few home like his oversea's rep suggested as well. The next part of his game he'll need to get under control is racking up the fouls in such short order.

You can see why the Cavs are at the very least intrigued with him. I think the Celts would LOVE to have him back right about now.

Re: Semih Erden

The Cavs gave up a pick to get him and Harongody, one of them had better pan out as a rotation player, and it doesn't look like Harongody will be the one. So this leaves us with only one hope.
