if we can sign that LITHU pg- DO we still get in this draft ?

Say we have around 5 million to play with. Who do you look to sign?

Daniels, Watson or Sarunas?

Personally I prefer Watson(more of a proto-typical pg) but have not seen enough of Sarunas to make a real evalution.

I agree with Watson. He has been a starting quatlity player for the past 18 month IMO. He is a solid defender which is why Fratello plays him over Williams in the 4th. His jump shot is steady, but not a massive strength. With his speed, he is good at getting inside. He seems adapt at both being a scoring point, or reverting back to being a playmaker. Daniels has too much of a scoring mentality for mine, and Sarunas's slowness at the point spot scares me.

To me Watson can be our point guard for the next 5 or so years. Signing him though will provide quite a challenge.

If we do bring in someone like a Redd or Allen then I have to agree with you Karma.

Watson is a much, much better fit because Daniels,Z,Redd, and Bron would need more balls then they could fit on the rack(did I even mention Gooden).

Watson can play any style--score if necessary but he is more of a set up the team pg and is really a starter stuck behind J-Will in Memphis.

If the Cavs got him I'd be very satisfied with him as our pg.

Karma and Disector agree on something. :drink:  :wiggle:

Great minds can think alike.

Watson would be a super addition as it can slowly move Snow into a minority role.

almost ANY point guard we add will be great. Watson is hardly a quality starter however. He plays in 4th quarters because jason williams is a head case and you don't know what he'll do, not to mention earl's defense is superior to j-will, and fratello's a D-guy.

Watson still has a shaky jumper, and at times will spend too much time dribbling rather than making plays for others. We can only hope he continues to show great attitude, and continues to work hard at improving his game, cause he is hardly a finished product.

I'm not sure earl would knock snow out of the starting line up this year however. Snow still is a superior floor general, and still is very heady on the defensive end. Snow's only problem is his terrible jumper, but as long as he only shoots 4 times a game, we get into our offense quickly, and we keep him away from passing into the post it shouldn't be a serious problem as long as we have someone other than ira newble starting next to him.

Hardcore Grizzlies fans have opinions on Watson that might shock you. Early in the season, the Watson love was strong but towards the end of the year, his play attracted contempt. Some questioned his basketball IQ, even calling him a plain idiot on occasions.

Here is a post from the Grizzlies board in reaction to Watson leaving Memphis:

Earl's shooting (and play in general) just got worse and worse throughout the season, and his shot was never even decent to begin with. He's just extremely painful to watch.

But perhaps one team's garbage is another team's savior.

i don't want watson-- i would prefer daniels- but i wouldn't mind taking the chance on the sarunas dude' over earl...

but the "d" scares me...

the only reason Watson's play suffered as the year went on was because Gasol got injured. Give Watson Z, and you'll see the watson of the beginning fo the year. He needs a post threat to be most effective.

Just for note : Earl Watson received some votes for the all defensive team. Defense starts at point guard. teaming him with Snow may not be the most prolific scoring tandom, but defensively we become elite at that position.

I also choose Watson out of those 3 if the Cavs could sign one of them. Mainly because he's younger and does have similar skills to Daniels. If Snow is still here than I'd want to pair him with a younger player rather than another vet on the downside.
Watson is far from perfect. He's not the greatest shooter although he can hit some 3's and also can have some turnover problems at times.

None of these FA PG's would be the answer for the Cavs. They're basically decent role players. I'm also not sure if any are worth a contract starting at about $5 million which is what it would take to get Watson or Daniels.

I might prefer trading into the draft and adding a young PG. Jarrett Jack is a realistic option who would be available in the mid 1st round to the early 20's where the Cavs could realistically get a pick. The Cavs could then sign a cheaper veteran PG for depth and still have Jack to develop behind Snow for a year or 2. I just can't see acquiring a high enough pick to draft either Felton or D. Williams.

3 years 10 million is not a lot of money people.

I seem to remember Kevin Ollie getting 5 years 15 million....

That is a reasonable contract but Sarunas is the only one of the 3 who could be had at that type of money. It will take MLE level money for either Watson or Daniels. That's when it starts to be questionable whether either of them is worth something along the lines of a 5 year contract worth anywhere from $25-30 million.

well from what i keep reading, he is a great shooter.

so if by chance we don't get a shooter- this needs to be our option, and maybe perhaps grab an upgrade in terms of perimeter defender at the sg spot.

If we do fail on the free agent big time shooting guard, we do then need to go on a two pronged attack. If we can then look at players like Simmons, Daniels, Watson, Swift, Radmanovic, Sarunas, etc. This is our only forseeable summer with cap space. We must utilise it.

Im also i nthe pull for earl watson, I love teh guys defense. He is a quick little speed demon. Doesnt have much of a three point shot but the guy is solid just about everywhere else.
