Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was kinda worried because there has been talk that his defense has completely fell off since his injury, but maybe a change of team can get him going again.

Shump's defense actually was really, really good last season. So don't worry, it did not completely fell off.

I'm watching LeBron and shumpert practice before the kings game right now. Shumperts legs look great while working w the coaches but his jump shot looks very off. Hasn't made many at all while repping w the coaches. I still remain optomistic. Time will tell.

Well another side comment. Shumperts points were 75 % assisted, which would be th e lowest percentage on the team after Kyrie, Lebron and JR Smith( who was only 45% assisted in NY). If he gets set up more rather than having to make his own shot, his offensive numbers should improve ( and same for JR). I think this may explain Kyries recent selfishness. Without Lebron, There is no one else who can make his own shot. So teams can focus on the passing lanes and force Kyrie to be a one man band...

Hope to see Dellavadovas minutes drop to about 5-7 a game when Shumpert is healthy. Can't stand to see him on the court any longer.

New York has actually started him at point, 2 guard and small forward this season. He was playing extremely well the first month then went into a slump before he got hurt.

He has pretty good shooting mechanics. He hops into all of his spot up shots (like Harris).

His athleticism looks fine to me. I think he is capable of guarding 1-3 if he puts his mind to it.

Remember, Tony Allen tore his acl awhile back in Boston and bounced back just fine.

Along with Tony Allen...Jamal Crawford, Corey Brewer, Al Jefferson, David West, Kyle Lowery....and I'm sure there are more but those are some of the ACL tears that I can remember off the top of my head who returned and are successful.. Everyone doesn't end up like D Rose.

Shumpert's torn ACL and lateral meniscus tear took place during the playoffs in his rookie year back in April 2012. Since returning from those injuries, he has statistically been no worse than his rookie year, and arguably a bit better. I know independent observers raved about his defense his rookie year. What have they been saying since then? He started off this year very strong before tailing off. Some have claimed that his most athletic highlights come from his rookie year, but there are plenty of post ACL highlights. That said, his injury history is a bit of a concern.

Many players seem to come back from ACL tears with no problem these days, while some do struggle. Maybe it's mostly psychological? It seems to me to be partly the case with Rose. Or does it have to do with the severity of the tear?

Can't wait to get him back for some defense. I have no idea if we're getting the top defender from a few years ago or the above average defender from this season but whatever happens it will still make this defense a bit better.

If he can be even remotely as good a defender as Tony Allen then this team has a lot less to worry about going forward.

LeBron + Shump + Mozgov...

Is it stupid to think we might actually have a functional defense at some point?

I didn't watch last night. Did lebron + Marion + Mozgov play together much? Wouldn't that be a defensive "wash" to what you mention above? If so, did the defense improve?

Lots of hope being pinned on our defensive efficiency and effort overall improving significantly once shumpert plays. Our cultural issues go deeper than one player. I'm waiting to be convinced...
