Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I didn't watch last night. Did lebron + Marion + Mozgov play together much? Wouldn't that be a defensive "wash" to what you mention above? If so, did the defense improve?

Lots of hope being pinned on our defensive efficiency and effort overall improving significantly once shumpert plays. Our cultural issues go deeper than one player. I'm waiting to be convinced...

Agree entirely. Player changes won't help our defense until the culture improves and the players buy into the system. But, assuming that the players do eventually buy in, I'm hoping this combination is capable of playoff level defense.

LeBron + Shump + Mozgov...

Is it stupid to think we might actually have a functional defense at some point?

I wouldn't say stupid, but it's sure hopeful. Because that equation still finishes like

LeBron + Shump + Mozgov - Love - Irving - Smith

It's hard to imagine many combinations that allow Blatt to have a respectable defense out there that also feature all three of our All-Star players at the same time. The easiest fix is taking Love out and sliding Marion next to LeBron to split power forward duties- the two of them each provide better rim protection than Love does.

So we've seen great early production out of JR [holds breath] that we can only hope is sustained. I'm still sticking with the theory that he's the kind of player than can only thrive in winning situations and beside great teammates.

The Moz is looking solid, while playing apparently limited minutes. He's filling a void that we've had all season.

Now Shump should be just over a week away if I'm not mistaken? This means JR goes to solidify the bench to provide a much needed scoring punch while Shump shuts down opposing guards and provides another solid scoring option.

But what are we really getting in Shump? And how will his inclusion change the outlook of our team, its chemistry and its rotation?

Was watching this video online for insight:

What I find most notable is Shump's athleticism, and the fact that we have none. Automatically, our athleticism near doubles with Iman on the floor. That's a big positive for me. He also balances out the perimeter shooters VS drivers problem we seem to have on offense which makes us guardable as he's a willing and capable driver.

Those with a more insightful basketball mind: I'd be keen to hear how else Shump might impact this team and how his inclusion might change our landscape? Also, which current Cav does Shump's inclusion benefit most in terms of compatibility etc?

I don't mean this post to get on Dellavedova, who had a rather exciting 4th-quarter tonight -- I recognize that he held Crawford to no made FGs in the last 9:30 of the fourth, which was huge. Also hit some big FTs. Also had some other, um, issues. Anyway....

I cannot wait until Shumpert is healthy and becomes the defensive go-to wing when games are on the line. Cannot wait to see him out there.

Truth is, Delly playing 23 minutes is about 18 minutes too many in a close game for a team that has legitimate hopes to take the conference. I think everyone respects Delly and he did a nice job defensively tonight, but he is playing way, way too much and the more he plays, the more his flaws get exposed. He should be a situational reserve that plays once every few games when the matchup is right.

Shump -- at least on paper -- is exactly what this team needs. His length on the perimeter defensively and fast hands to start breaks is obvious. But, also his athleticism offensively at that spot is going to be huge. Then, when the ball starts hopping, he's more than capable of knocking down open jumpers if Blatt has him in the right spots.

I'm loving this trade so far. JR Smith has been very solid and will be even better as a change-of-pace guy off the bench and Mozgov -- when he's not getting in foul trouble -- has already done wonders for our defense. I'm also liking his work in the post and on the boards.

Best of all, none of these guys aside from JR are veterans. Shump and Mozgov still have plenty of good years left in them. We will see how it plays out, but a Kyrie-Shump-LeBron-Love-Mozgov starting five looks about as cohesive as we could possibly hope for.

I know the chick at the end of the vid is his girlfriend Teyana Taylor.

Is shumpert gay? Not a problem if he is but this link and description in his bio would point to it being so---> http://instagram.com/p/x8suGdJraH/

Yeah his girlfriend is Teyana Taylor and she hacked him as a joke and interviewed him about having to sit out.

He's sad that he can't play and she starts playing the harmonica.

you can tell his shoulder is really limiting his ability to throw down insane windmills
It's all part of the big plan. Dr Lebron James who is on a mission to fire his coach by losing made some tests on him and decided that Shumpert needed some more rest.

That small lineup with TT Lebron marion irving with shump instead of delly should be effective in spurts. Defensively they can switch up on single double and some p+r offensively they can run lebron and irving p+r or postup depending on matchups. Can even put love in or Moz for marion if needed, or smith/miller if shooting is needed
