Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm glad we ended up with Shumpert and Smith.

Quite honestly, I think Oklahoma city would have been better off cutting us out of the trade completely. Shumpert would be a perfect combo guard starting with Westbrook, and Smith could be doing the same things for them that he's doing here.

Presti may have whiffed on this one.

This team is scary w shumpert at the 2

Can't wait till he's starting... Really brings the D, fast, athletic
Plus that pushes Smith onto the bench. I'm happy with what he has given us starting, but we need solid bench scoring. Having Smith come in late in the first to spell Shumpert at the 2 or Lebron at the 3 can bring added energy - I think even more than he brings starting.

The plus is that Shumpert is capable of drilling open 3s as well, so we can get his D and the bombs while still getting to enjoy Smith leading a surge from the bench.

Yeah. Swing and miss for OKC. I think Denver may regret trading Mozgov too. OKC will have to fight to make the playoffs due to all their injuries and that will make that pick not convey. If OKC turns it around next year and has a top 4 record, Denver could end up with two late first as long as Gasol stays in Memphis.

It wasn't much of a whiff though considering what they gave up. Plus, Dion could be at least replacing Reggie Jackson if he walks at the worst.

But I agree we got the best end of the deal in about every way. It was just a low risk, potential high reward for OKC.

Okc gave up who....lance thomas??...they got dion "im better than kyrie" waiters they got a great deal./green font

Night and day between the beginning of the year and now. Guys were just blowing by us on the perimeter being guarded by Smith, Miller, Delly, and even Dion (dion's D has gotten better). Now Shumpert looks like he's going to swallow guys on defense if they aren't named Kevin Durant. Guys like Reggie Jackson were eating our lunch before and instead he gets benched today because he looked so bad trying to attack Shumpert

It will be interesting to see a Mozgov, Lebron, Marion, Shumpert plus whoever as that has a chance to be an incredibly effective defensive lineup.

You can throw Kyrie into that defensive lineup, which gives us a crazy balance of great offense and great defense.

Coach Nick and Chris Herring from the WSJ did an interesting podcast a couple of days ago. Much of it was on the Knicks, and they discussed JR Smith and Shumpert pretty extensively in the first part of the podcast.

Coach Nick commented that he thought Shumpert was an elite wing defender a couple of years ago, and was wondering why he didn't look that way this year with the Knicks. Interestingly, Herring's theory isn't that he had lost a step to injury but that he had been asked to carry too heavy of a load on offense, and his defense suffered.

It's an interesting theory. Shump's usage this year with the Knicks was 20%, whereas the previous two years he was a bit under 15%.

It will be interesting to see how the Cavs use Shumpert. I don't see Blatt inserting Shumert in the starting lineup anytime soon since the Cavs have been winning and Blatt is a rookie coach playing it safe.

However, long term and for the playoffs, I think we need Shumpert to start and JR to come off the bench and get us points that way.

The sooner we get Shumpert playing with the starters and JR playing with the bench bunch, the sooner they can both develop chemistry with their respective units.

A few poor shooting nights from Smith are actually coming at a decent time.

1.) I'm not worried about it, we know he's streaky. We expect it, and it's fine. He's taking mostly good shots. I can live with off nights.

2.) It makes it easier for Blattt to insert Shumpert into the starting line-up which I think is our ultimate end-game in terms of how we construct the team.

They're taking it slow with Shumpert, and I assume they'll continue doing this during the 4 games in 5 nights stretch. But he looked like a defensive weapon tonight. Just looks comfortable on that side of the floor already. They have the luxury to ease him in to his role.

That trio of Shumpert/Marion/Lebron looks potentially like an elite combo out there. I think only GS with Thompson, Iggy, Barnes, and Green has a similar group of guys who can each can guard 3+ positions. You just don't have to worry about switching on any PnR's as they have the footspeed/length to cover and the perimeter and size to prevent being posted up.

Shumpert really does have that look of a Tony Allen type out: good combination of instincts, quick hands, and lateral quickness

Shump is coming around quite nicely. Still isn't in game shape yet but the fact he is already effecting games on the defensive end is a great sign. He seems to already know his role offensively and moves very well without the ball. He gets to the corner quickly whenever LBJ and Irving drive, something Waiters seemed to never figure out. It's all about moving without the ball WHILE the ball is already moving. Surprising that Smith and Shumpert are so adept at doing this when they've played with staff-sheet stuffing Melo for years.

I'd assume his shoulder might be affecting his shot a bit. But hey, he hit his first 4 triples while a member of the Cavs. The shots don't always fall. Here's the thing though. He brings value on defense. Gone are the days of Mike Miller getting 30 minutes. If his shot doesn't fall, he's useless, but Shump has made an impact defensively already.
