Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I know we are thin right now on the wing--especially with JR out. I also know that if we trade Shumpert, we must replace him somehow.

It's just--this feels like he needs to be moved while the iron is hot. Injury history, terrible basketball IQ, overrated defender, combined with his potential flash-in-a-pan shooting from 3--right now screams that it may be the time to cash in with him. At least, gauge value around the league.

I hope I'm wrong--it just feels that way.

He is really the most overrated defender I can recall in some time....from LeBron calling him one of the best defenders in the NBA, to today where the guy is basically an expensive pillow. I would call him a turnstile, but his style is to give as much space as possible as to not get beat. The amount of cushion he gives his man is just absurd 75-80% of the time.

Hence why he is horrible when guarding Curry, who just takes the shot.

I like Shump and think he's valuable. I think he is a very good defender. I hope we don't trade him.

He really doesn't lay off Curry. He's actually bothered Curry quite a bit...

Ah, video from two years ago. I will agree, Shumpert was great for us that postseason defensively. Even with a groin issue. In fact, it's how he got that 4 year contract. I was excited as anyone to lock him up. He was going to be the starter the next season. JR was coming back on a show-me deal and Shumpert was the prized steer at that time.

Now, the Shumpert we've gotten the past two seasons has gotten roasted. He, frankly, hasn't been the same on that end. I hoped it had to do with the wrist injury and losing confidence last year, but it's been more of the same this year. The healed wrist has helped offense, but that defense has been gone for 2 years now and I don't know why...

Surely you guys see it.

I agree with everything you said there regarding the unexplained regression in Shumpert's defense. I just don't think he lays of Curry or that Curry schools him with ease (at least not with anymore ease than he schools everyone else). Though Liggins did a better job on Steph than Shumpert in the Christmas game.

The regression in Shumpert's defense can be traced back to him getting paid.

He was out of this world good defensively 2 years ago and thru the finals run. That offseason, he got paid and we have not seen the same Iman since.

He is now a liability half the time he is on the court and is ridiculously overpaid for what he actually contributes.

Shump played great. Why was he not playing in the 4th quarter,? Game over and Korver 12 points and Shump 16. More points and better D. Like must be on drugs.

Probably saving him as in shaving minutes

Regular season and we know he has a severe injury history

I am confused regarding Shump.

His shooting has been flatout amazing but the reason why we traded for him isn't there anymore. He gets those steals which look great but his defending has looked out of sorts this season. We need him to be a good defender and average shooter instead of a good shooter and an average defender. Because we have plenty of the later in our roster.

If shumps maintains his health he is valuable to the cavs.. Shooting a lot better and you can still see glimpses of defensive ability.. This team is in a funk and asking him to cover all defensive deficiency is unfair..

Possibly the best game Shump this season.

In fact, that was probably one of his best games ever in a Cavs uniform. Reminded me of the Shump during the 2016 Playoffs where he locked down opposition guards really well and was good shooting wise.

Don't think I have seen Shump play this complete a game since that playoffs. He has had games where he has been good defensively but not this good and offensively while he has scored well ever since being inserted to the starting unit, his defense had looked underwhelming. But to see him go up against Westbrook, who is kind impossible to guard and completely negate Westbrook's scoring impact was very exciting. He wasn't shooting the ball well initially but really found his shot later on and ended up with 5 of 8 from the 3-point land. That is seriously impressive stuff!

Well Played, Shump! More of games like this plz!

Did a great job vs Westbrook. Trade him to a west team that needs someone to defend him. He's barely playable for us against GS. Maybe we can get the rockets to trade us Beverly or ariza for him.
