Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
because he made two stupid non shooting fouls while team was in bonus in like 45 seconds, and blew a rotation that yielded a layup (as he is prone to do) eventually Lue was like, "oh yeah, I've seen this movie before." say what you will about Lue, he has either the patience of a saint or the memory of a gnat.
We talked about this on Twitter, but during the regular season, Lue's decision to roll with Shumpert *instead* of Derrick was mind-boggling. I'm not saying play Derrick instead of Shumpert, however, I do think reducing D-Will's minutes and giving them to Iman was a mistake.

Maybe Derrick couldn't play as good ISO defense... It's definitely possible. But while Derrick wasn't as skilled as Iman was on defense, he was a better team defender, didn't have mental lapses, and was a killer in transition on offense.

Derrick was slowing down later on, but to me, it felt more like a bad streak. Do I think we beat the Warriors if he plays instead of Shumpert? Nah, probably not. But it would've been interesting to see what happened had Derrick been in the rotation.

I think Derrick Williams could have help us but I don't think he would be a replacement for Shump. I felt that Lue played Shump wrong all season and built up his confidence in all the wrong areas. Shump is a purely a wing 3 and D player. Asking him to handle the ball and guard point guards all season didn't have him working to his strengths. He is good at denying the ball to players and disrupting the offense flow, asking him to pick up guys full court and being on the primary ball handler isn't what he was brought here to do.

He has quick hands for a wing but on a point guard with elite level handles like Curry, it will just get him into trouble. Asking him to handle the ball gave him a false confidence in his slashing ability, he can't finish. He was asked to be the secondary ball handler and instead of the ball moving to the next shooter when he didn't have the shot, he started wanting to create the shot.

Get everyone back to playing to their strengths. Derrick Williams fill a hole in this teams defense to guard big wings and hybrid forwards. Shump and JR can guard wings but neither Curry or Durant are considered wings. We also need a guard to defend point guard or combo guards, shump and Jr can do this but it should never be their primary duty.

Still can't believe we signed this dumb motherfucker and didn't pay Delly, Dellys career is dying in Milwaukee we need to save him

First priority, getting rid of this fucking moron.

You suck. The one player I'm looking at on this roster, and saying, fuck you.

Are the others perfect? no, but this idiot can't even do what he's supposed to. Just the laziest basketball player I've seen since Ricky Davis.
lol im way more gentle on him and during the season I let him slide a lot, but yeah hes pretty worthless if he cant defend. I honestly thought hed be much better on D. My dumbass thought hed be our best defender after his 1st year here.

Hes a worthless contract right now. We probably couldn't GIVE his contract away.

New Orleans must, must, must make the playoffs this year. They desperately need some wings who can competently shoot the ball. They have their own first rounder next year. They currently have some cap space.

See where I'm going? Now, what if we were actually not only willing to trade Shumpert, but take back the shitty contract of useless Omer Asik?....

Even not taking back Asik I hope, hope, hope we are monitoring the New Orleans situation. This seems like a good landing spot for Shumpert and a way to get an asset that doesn't have a salary number attached to it.

It does but maybe we revisit the Shump for Bev trade in PHO again other wise I agree NO is a very interesting team to watch out for.

Few deals out there on Shump....Cavs evaluating best package back. Won't knock anyone's socks off, but as I've been saying all off-season in regards to Gilbert and future franchise value, not only will it make us more flexible in near future, but it will give us more long-term flexibility which is what Gilbert is looking for primarily.

He's convinced we are going to win the EC. Let the chips fall after that. And after that, if LeBron bails (which Gilbert is assuming he does) be prepared financially and roster-wise to capitalize on the market.

To be honest.....we are well set up to win the east, and we are continually getting better in terms of financial flexibility for future off-seasons.

To circle back though....I'm hearing Shump is gone, for what will be mostly non-guaranteed contracts.

Wait, were are you hearing the Gilbert assumes LeBron will leave in the summer?

Source through a former boss.....in the Cavs org.

LeBron won't give any long-term assurances so Gilbert is treating this roster like LeBron is gone. And he's not only treating his team like it's about to lose it's best asset, he's showing LeBron what a "hamstrung" front office looks like.

It's funny to me.....I see these reports from guys like Broussard and others, where they talk about Indy refusing to trade PG to the Cavs even though they're in full tank mode now. Meanwhile, there's a source in Cavs front office who says it's been quiet as hell and the direction since Griffin left was to maintain the core. Long term assets are essentially "off limits".

It's exceptionally easy to see what the Cavs are doing right now, and yet most people seem to ignore the obvious. It's weird to me in some ways....

I honestly don't blame Gilbert at all if that's the case, we saw what happened last time the Cavs went all in the 1st go round.

So he/you don't take take the reports seriously that it was Gilbert and the owner for the Nuggets/Pacers that worked together to work on a Love/Paul George deal that the Pacers pulled out of after Pritchard talked his owner out of it?

Yea we got Kyrie Irving.
We got lucky that the Clippers pick we traded for got the Cavs the number 1 pick that landed Kyrie. It really has nothing to do with the Cavs rebuild after LeBron left, but more about keeping the roster flexible moving forward.

Thanks for sharing. I'll selectively interpret this as that I can go to sleep easy knowing that we won't do something ridiculous like trade TT for Melo's contract.

That report is garbage from what I'm hearing....Gilbert loves Kevin Love's contract from what I've been told. He feels like Love is a steal at his price in the current market where guys like Otto Porter are being offered max-deals.
