Iman Shumpert: Gone! Thank God!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This thread will likely go downhill rapidly. Shumpert had a great rookie season, problem is since then he hasn't done much of anything. I'm really lukewarm on the dude. There is no doubt he has some talent like Waiters did, I just don't think he will put it together enough to be our long term option at SG. He is still young though and maybe with a better team/organization and Lebron he can figure it out

So we trade dion and bench Warmers for an older dion and a guy that be a decent wing defender sounds pretty good to me.

And a first rounder

Pretty sure we traded a second rounder and received a protected first rounder. For reference:

  • Cleveland Receives: J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert and an Oklahoma City first-round pick that's top-18 protected in 2015 and top-15 protected in 2016 and 2017 before turning into a second-round selection in 2018, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
  • New York Receives: Lou Amundson, Alex Kirk and a 2019 second-round pick from Cleveland as well as Lance Thomas from Oklahoma City. More importantly, the Knicks save $6.4 million in raw money next season by dealing Smith and open up approximately $28 million total in cap space next summer when taxes are accounted for. The Knicks will also reportedly waive center Samuel Dalembert.
  • Oklahoma City Receives: Dion Waiters

Just so we are clear, even if Shumpert's defense is overrated *and it is a little*, he has the physical tools to become one of the best defenders in the NBA. It's not hard to envision where he meets that ceiling. He is long, athletic, and has incredibly quick hands and good instincts. I think he just needs that push and drive that someone that a LeBron can give a player.

Dion never had the defensive upside that Shump has. Maybe not even a half of Shump's potential on the defensive end. And that's desperately what we needed right now.

I liked Shumpert before his injury - cautiously optimistic he can develop into a quality piece for us at SG.

How soon do you think they can realistically expect him in a game? Smith is ready and if he is at the arena and passed whatever physical he will probably play in the next game.

wow im extremely happy we got this guy, ive been wanting him next to Kyrie since we drafted him. Shump is a player that knows his role. Good on the ball defender, good weak side defender, and is a very underrated spot up shooter.

I'm a little weary of the injury. We have enough people injured the way it is, but hopefully this is something that doesn't affect him too bad going forward. I figured this type of injury could linger.
