Indians Are No Longer 'Cool'

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
EDIT: I take it back. The best thing that came from this season from the Indians perspective was finally ridding itself of the waste that is Jhonny Peralta...

For as much grief as Jhonny has taken over the years, he still managed to put up 15 HR's and 80 RBI's while hitting .250. Now this is nothing special and I really don't care that he is gone, but those numbers look great compared to the garbage we watched at 3rd base after he left (Marte, Valbuena)

1) Everyone has injuries and bad breaks, yes...but not everyone loses their leadoff hitter, cleanup hitter, #2 starter, #3 starter, and top setup man.

2) Nobody said Sizemore was the team's best player

3) He finished top ten in MVP voting in 2008 (his last healthy season), was an All-Star, and won both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger. Apparently baseball people disagree with you.

You're right, SGM. It's absolutely hopeless when you lose your clean-up hitter for the second half of the season and your top closer for the entire season.

Sincerely,

the Minnesota Twins

Except that the Indians lost their cleanup hitter, catcher and best hitter, leadoff hitter, #2 starter, #3 starter, and top setup man, not just two guys.

And those "two guys" are better than the Tribe's cleanup hitter, catcher, leadoff hitter, #2 starter, #3 starter and top setup man put together. Besides, I know your posting history, SGM. If it was just the cleanup hitter and closer the Indians lost you'd be using that as your excuse. You ALWAYS have an excuse for the Indians. You can never just suck it up and admit that this is simply a bad ballclub, injuries aside.

Who is the "cleanup hitter" in question anyway? Is it Hafner? You do know he hasn't been healthy in three years, right?

Not saying I disagree that this is a bad ball club.

But the quoted post is flatly stupid to the highest degree.

You can win losing a guy or two, but when you lose the numbers Cleveland has....that is not even remotely close to the same.

Who did the Indians lose?

Santana I'll give you was a bad break.

Cabrera? He had a .799 OPS last season for a team that still lost 97 games. He's a decent complimentary player but if losing him for 60 games breaks your season you weren't very good in the first place.

Westbrook? A 32-year old coming off Tommy John surgery.

Sizemore? He hasn't been healthy in two years.

Hafner? A 33-year old DH who hasn't been healthy in three years.

Are you telling me the Indians were counting on the likes of Hafner and Westbrook?

You don't think counting on these guys to stay healthy and produce wasn't part of the problem in the first place?

Losing Hafner in all three of those years has hurt this team, yes.

Sizemore as well.

So yes, when you add those to the losses of "complementary" players like Cabrera, Santana, Westbrook, ect....You have yourself a problem, especially considering the players who replaced them.

We were talking about the 2008 Indians, not the 2010 Tribe...

The thing that blows my mind is that in a town that has such love for a losing franchise (Browns) and such disdain for fair-weathered fans (LeBron) the fans have this "I don't have to care because they aren't winning."

If you are fans of a team, you cheer for that team. The entire point of being a fan is cheering when they are good and bad - otherwise we would all just pick a team come playoff time. We were JUST good in 07. With only minimal research you could see we are poised to be good again soon - is it really that hard to watch a young, rebuilding team for 3-4 years?

If I could "thank" you twice, I would...good to see someone who gets it.

Once again... IT'S A FOOTBALL TOWN AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN.

No sense in complaining about it. That's the way it is. Just deal with it.

Some of us just can't accept ignorance because "it's a football town"...

What you do or don't accept doesn't matter, frankly.

I can't accept that it's warm and sunny in San Diego in January and cold and crappy here.

I can't accept that the MAC doesn't get multiple at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament.

I can't accept that Miami wins pro sports championships and Cleveland doesn't.

It doesn't matter.

Besides, EVERY city has its preferred teams. Boston prefers the Red Sox over the Patriots. St. Louis prefers the Cardinals over the Rams. Pittsburgh prefers the Steelers over the Pirates.

There's no sense in complaining about it because it can't be changed. It's a fact of life.

Nobody is asking that the Indians be the #1 team in Cleveland. That's not going to happen. What I do ask is for people to learn a little bit about the topic before they go spouting off about how bad the Indians owner is.

Why is he a good owner?
