Is AV good enough to make the all star game?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Disagree with it all you want, that's how it works.

the way it works is the coaches select the reserves and if Andy has made more of an impression than Hibbert , he will go

Each of the 30 NBA head coaches have already received an email from the league, asking them to send in ballots with the names of seven players (two guards, two forwards, one center and two wild cards) deserving to play in the All-Star Game for their respective conference.

Choosing only seven will be difficult for the coaches tasked with doing so. However, they are given some leeway in picking the players at each of the positions.

Unlike the fan votes, which had a strict list of guards, forwards and centers, the coaches are allowed to place a player that was listed as a forward in the center spot (or a forward at the guard spot, etc.) if they feel that player can play that position. This helps to prevent deserving All-Stars from being snubbed by less-deserving players due to a lack of quality players at that position.

Still, there's no getting around the fact that, with all of the players that have played their way to serious All-Star consideration, there will be players overlooked simply because there is no room for them.

those were head to head stats.

And good teams get rewarded with AS players. Do you remember Mo Williams?

in my opinion Andy is a solid role player, but not an All-star caliber player. in most seasons 11 ppg wouldn't warrant an all-star spot, but there aren't many quality big men available from the east this year, so maybe he has a chance to sneak in. My guess is Hibbert gets the nod - they usually look at scoring and Hibbert's 14 ppg will probably get him selected.

I think andy is more than just a role player , he is 2nd in the NBA in rebounding only to Howard and a defensive monster

I think he gets in over Chandler and Stoudamire only gets in if they vote on past contributions

Hibbert is only averaging 3 more ppg with worse rebounding on a more successful team

the Knicks already have anthony in

if the coaches want to give the pacers a token entry its a good chance its Hibbert, if they want to go on past contributions Granger gets a consideration

I would love to see andy go but yeah I'll admit its a gamble

AV has the second highest rebound rate in the league among player who are playing 25mpg or more. He's only behind Dwight Howard. He's really having a pretty remarkable season in terms of defense and the glass.
I think it's a testament to how good AV and Irving is that this team has won 9 games.

He might not be an all-star caliber player, but he's having an all-star caliber season. Whether or not he gets in remains to be seen, but he's worthy of the spot and nobody would bat an eyelash if he were named to the team.

My guess he gets in. Maybe I'm bias, but Andy makes the game more enjoyable to watch. That alone should help make the decision in Andy's favor. To me the All star game is a weekend for fun basketball, if a guy can make the game fun, I say, get em in there.

While I totally want to see Irving or Andy in the All-Star Game. I don't think they give it to Andy. I don't think the league wants a guy in the All-Star game that is going to play Defense and take 2-3 charges lol. Andy is making a very strong case though with those 2 "Blake Griffin" style dunks on the Mavs.

Sidenote: Can you imagine all the Sports coverage we would get when the game started about Lebron out there with Andy and or Irving.

I think the forums would implode if we saw a Kyrie to LeBron oop or a LeBron/AV pick and roll....

easily . . . . .???????

andy is out reboudning him and playing better D

also its hard to not shoot 70% when the majority of your shots are dunks

Playing better D? What do you base this on? Chandler blocks more shots and has more bad defensive players surrounding him that he has to cover for.

And that's like the old Kobe is better than LBJ arguments we would hear. Kobe is better because he hits more tough shots or something. Chandler is scoring far, FAR more efficiently than Andy. You don't discount that because he scores in easier ways. Being a good basketball player isn't about scoring in the toughest ways possible..it's about creating the easiest shot possible.

EDIT: And I'll just finish my part in this debate by saying that if it were the Cavs at 16-7 and Andy was having this kind of year, we would be talking about a crime against humanity if he were to be left off the all-star team for a guy like Roy Hibbert. When awarding players for individual achievement in a team sport, winning should play at least SOME factor. And when you have two players who are damn near identical in their statistical contributions and are both really, really good defenders, winning should help seperate the two.

Egregious mistake by yours truly to not at least include Varejao among East snubs in my latest Weekend Dime. Unavoidably overshadowed by Kyrie Fever, which spreads faster every week, Varejao is the NBA's top offensive board man (4.7 per game) and has played his way to near-untouchable status.

Did you seriously just compare Andy's dunks to Blake Griffin? Andy barely gets the ball over the rim on most dunks, while Blake Griffin is renowned as one of the most freakish leapers of all time. there's no comparison. i appreciate Andy and all, but he's not much of a leaper.
