Is AV good enough to make the all star game?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think his 2 dunks in the first quarter were pretty powerful, and if Griffin had those same dunks he would have been on ESPN top10. But after looking on Youtube for Highlights of Andy's dunks, the only results I get is Andy getting dunked on lol. :)

RE Chandler vs. AV....if you think Chandler is just getting his offensive opportunities from easy looks at the bucket....AV is actually assisted on more of his buckets. For what it's worth.

Derek (Cleveland)

not even a mention for andy varejao as an all star?? dude has been on a tear lately (20/20 and 17/17) how about some love for the big brazilian!!
John Hollinger (2:33 PM)

He's been on a tear lately. This much is true. It doesn't make him one of the 12 best players in the East. He's having a very strong year but realistically we'd need 20-man sides before he had a good chance of making the team.

On February 7th, 2012, John Hollinger ignores advanced statistics to toe the ESPN company line. Mark your calendars.

Yeah, it is odd. You'd think he would be singing Andy's praises. I mean, Andy is the exact type of player that represents everything Hollinger, supposedly, stands for.

Andy's stats against the contenders this season

1-13 vs LA 11 pts 14 reb
1-20 vs CHI 14 pts 7 reb
1-24 vs MIA 11 pts 11 reb
1-25 vs NY 10 pts 16 reb
1-29 vs BOS 18 pts 9 reb
1-31 vs BOS 20 pts 20 reb
2-3 vs ORL 12 pts 15 reb
2-4 vs DAL 17 pts 17 reb

He deserves the all-star bid

I'll never forgive AV for that junk he threw up at the end of Game 3 in the 2007 Finals. Cost us the game and the chance to compete in the series.

Yep, He also is a woman. Lol.

how is that? Andy is 25th in the east in PER, Hollinger said they would have to have 20 players in the east for him to have a chance. Hollinger is just being consistent with himself. I suspect Hollinger would have Kyrie on the all star team as he is 9th in the east in PER.

And this one comment he made is changing your opinion on him...?

99% of this board massively overrates AV btw.

I was just pointing out that in John Hollinger's own measurement rubric, the PER, AV is clearly ahead of Hibbert by a score of 19.09 to 18.39. I personally consider the play of Hibbert and AV to be a toss up for second best center play in the East. Hibbert is more of a traditional center in the pivot while AV relies more on his positioning and agility.

I'm just pointing out Hollinger's own inconsistency here.

Yeah. Lazy comment on my part. I didn't bother to look up the numbers. You're spot on, KI4MVP.

I don't care if Andy makes the team or not. A player like AV can't be truly appreciated. You could make a very good argument that the 3 things that man is best at would not show up in the boxscore. I mean things like positioning, heart, defense. There is no good metric for any of those (OPP PER sucks).

Not to nit pick, but that 20 top players comment is bunk. You don't take the top players to make a TEAM, you take the top players at their respective positions. This season, Andy's play definitely warrants much more consideration than Hollinger's comments would suggest. I mean, come on. That 20 players comment is pure garbage. After Howard, Andy is easily in any discussion of the next tier of C's this season.

Where did Hollinger put Hibbert ahead of AV? He simply stated AV isn't an All-Star. In-fact, in his column today Hollinger even says he thinks it will be a travesty if Hibbert makes it.
