Joe "Captain America" Harris

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Dennis Rodman was arguably the greatest "garbage man," chemistry guy in NBA history. He was drafted in the second round onto a championship-ready Detroit Pistons team and he had a huge impact immediately. Did he start? No. But who cares. He played between 15-20 minutes a game on that team. Regardless of whether he starts the game or not, that's about the most that we'll ever ask of Harris.

Mark Price, Marc Gasol, Manu Ginobili... all second round picks who I'm sure would have gotten plenty of burn on championship teams in their rookie years. The aura that surrounds "starting" is overrated.

Right. One of the great things about the Marion signing was that we could limit LeBron's minutes without the defense totally falling apart and at least keeping a capable offensive player on the court. Marion right now is really the key to LeBron's minutes going down.

His starting is just a stopgap until Joe is ready. It's going to happen sooner rather than later, it seems... and it should. He seems like the perfect 3&D compliment at the 2 for the Kyrie, LeBron, Love, Varejao lineup. Let Dion and Marion run the second unit, which suddenly would look pretty damn formidable.

Now we just need Ray Allen on this team to teach Joe (and Kyrie and Dion too) how to be the ultimate off-the-ball player, and Joe would just soak that all up. I'm sure.

Richard Dumas, '93 Suns. 46th overall in the '91 draft but was suspended for drugs until '92-93. First season, started all six games against the Bulls in the Finals. What do I win?

Surprised no one said Courtney Lee, who was a late 1st rounder, considering he was on the team that went through us. But still, a lot of rookies have played important minutes in the Finals. Sam Cassell, Cliff Robinson, Richard Jefferson and Jason Collins on those good Nets teams, Beno Udrih, our own Boobie Gibson, Glen Davis, and Norris Cole are some that come to mind quickly.

And on that note, it ain't about who starts the games, it's about who finishes, and good luck finding a website that tracks that.

Why is everyone humoring such an asinine question in the first place? Harris as a floor spacing starter despite being a rookie 2nd round pick is not going to make or break us as a championship contender.

It kind of does matter a little bit. Meshing, getting off to fast starts, ect.. I think its even more humorous that a guy who has 2 good games against boston and Atlanta is all the sudden our savior as the starting 2 gaurd

Yeah, no one is saying that. What people are saying is he is the best possible fit with the starters since he knows his role, spreads the floor, doesn't require a lot of touches, and plays smart defense with a lot of effort.

Joe is on the same level when it comes to meshing as everyone else is. This is a superteam coming together, they will have to mesh no matter what. Using that as your excuse to him not starting makes your argument invalid. And no one is saying he is the savior. He might be the best fit right now on this star-studded starting 5.

hey everyone has their own opinion but I believe that it would be a horrendous decision to replace marion w/ harris. I think Marion's resume speaks for itself. 15 years in the league as a starter and won a championship with the mavs. In fact he was one of the main reasons they won from his d on LeBron.

I also think the big 3 need defense out there with them in the starting unit not more shooting and less d

I may not agree with your argument but I do think for now we should stay with Shawn starting at the 2 until it needs adjusted at the appropriate time. Maybe wait a little longer to insert joe into the starting lineup

I love how Joe Harris hops into pretty much of all his jump shots. That is the key to getting off a quick jumpshot either off the dribble or the catch. It is so much quicker and more rhythmic than the 1-2 step. He also does an amazing job of moving the ball quickly when it is clear he doesn't have a shot, and he has some ability to put the ball on the deck when there are hard close outs. This is exactly what we need from our starting shooting guard.

I'm talking about a second rounder in their rookie season... There is no way in hell we can win it all with Joe Harris as our starter this year. Experience wins championships

Marc Ivaroni was a 3rd round pick who started at PF for the 83 Sixers in his rookie season (it took him 5 years to even make the league). He may be the worst starter on championship team in history.

All good points, but I'd add one more: He doesn't stop the ball.
