Joe "Captain America" Harris

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Really nice game from him tonight. Solid positional defense and doesn't over help like a lot of the team is doing. Understands proper spacing on both ends and is not a ball stopper. Had a few mishandles but I feel comfortable seeing him in the game.

I won't be surprised to see Delly and Harris on the court at the same time when Delly gets back. He's smart on defense and hustles. Just shows us the possibilities of what this team could be with a 3 and D guy along with a rim protector. We simply can't go on runs because we can't get stops and additionally, teams and all manner of scrubs on those teams can't seem to ever miss jump shots. With just an average defense with more players willing to defend like Harris does, we can can break games open early.

I like how Harris makes the most of the time he's on the court. When the Cavs switch on defense, which they're doing often, or when there's an offensive rebound, or when things are rough in transition, he always seems to pick up someone, even if it's someone 50 lbs heavier and 6 inches taller.

I don't think he's the answer to larger issues. He was getting torched by Avery Bradley in the first half, in part because the Cavs were conceding jump shots. And he's not fast enough to cover quick guards, like Rondo, even if he was asked to for part of that last play.

But he does his job, he gives an effort, and he doesn't get in the way. I love how he he's getting important minutes now since it will pay off later, no matter what the roster looks like. I don't see how he makes anyone expendable. Cavs are not all that deep. But it gives Blatt longer to figure out whether Miller will offer anything.

Great value for a 2nd-round pick, just like we all said when he was chosen. :chuckle:

Love this guy. He just knows where to be on the floor.

That 3 he drilled late in the 4th was just awesome to see and his effort on D I thought was great. Bradley was lighting him up but it was all on contested midrange jumpers - I'll take that all day long, especially with how he was fighting over screens.

I believe that Dion is a perfect fit for this team (slashing 2 guard with 3 point range & a decent defender). With his minutes reduction/bench relegation I'm glad that Joe Harris is being productive while on the court. Granted most rookies are atrocious defenders, and that is to be expected their first few years in the league, he is not afraid to take the big shot...

Looking further down the line, I can see him making a clutch kick-out three from Lebron or Kyrie during the season/potential playoff matchup.

The question is going to be, can we keep him on the floor if our defense continues this way? I think you let him play, keep his minutes in the 15-20 minute range and hope his defense improves.

In a perfect world, Dion would get his act together (Listen to the most recent Hey Windy podcast) and Joe wouldn't be thrown into the fire just yet, but there is something to be said for game action...

4. “Joe Harris is going to be a big piece for our team,” James said. “He’s going to have his rookie mistakes, we know that, but mistakes can be covered when you play hard. That’s one thing that kid is doing.”

While Dion is a nice piece for this team, his best attribute, his ability to slash and create, is ultimately surplus to a team that is going to have LBJ and/or Kyrie on the floor at all times.

We need more guys like Harris who just do their job, aka role players. I don't know if Dion will ever be able to accept that, because he's too good to just be a role player, especially this early in his career.

Blatt's comments on Harris after the game...

" What do I say about him? Well, I put him in so i guess i said everything I have to say about him. I believe in the kid. I believe in the kid and it's not only the shot he made. He played the game right. He played with the type of intensity and physicality that he needed to. He played for the team"

Blatt's starting to figure out his rotation and as it's been mentioned on here, he also uses his gut instinct (Something coach Brown never had). It's all coming together and It's a pleasure to watch.

I feel like I watched a different game than a lot of you. Harris was bad defensively in the first half but in the second half he was fantastic. Those last five minutes he, not LBJ, was guarding Rondo. Was he perfect? Nah, not even close. But I really think he can develop into a 3&D guy in the mold of Danny Green. I like what I'm seeing from him.

This should also send a clear message to Dion--if he listens to things like that. The demands of the shooting guard spot on this team requires the things that Harris is prepared to do. Dion needs to change his approach when he is the 4th option or he will sit during that portion of the game.

he kept going under screens and Bradley hit a lot of long 2s. i don't necessarily have a huge problem with that.

Like the Harpring comparison. If that's what he becomes, I'll be very happy. Perfect lunchpail guy for a Cleveland team. Expect to see lots of #12 jerseys if he keeps this up.
