John DeFilippo - Browns OC

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Marty Mornhinweg developed Jeff Garcia and then revived Garcia's career in Philadelphia. So all the Manziel/Garcia comparisons will get a big reboot if he is hired.

Always cracks me up how personal people take stuff like Adam Gase deciding that the Browns situation might not be the most stable. It always turns into a personal vendetta, like he did it because he secretly hates the city and its collective children.

I've been open about my disdain for Gase.

I have little respect for people who, like he, are trying to land somewhere soft. It happens to many different organizations, I know. I also respect the shit out of a candidate like Chud or Pettine, who leapt with the belief that they don't need superstars in place to achieve success.. Especially in their FIRST head coaching job. I think it's "beta" of Gase. Last year and this year.

I don't have much confidence that it's the case, but perhaps Gase doesn't have a job with his former boss or his new boss at this time because they look down upon that trait. :dunno:

CHAN GAILEY HIRED BY THE JETS NOT BROWNS HOORAY THERE IS A GOD AND FUCK NEW YORK FOREVER

Didn't see this posted..

God please stay away from Mornhinweg. Martz seems to be anti everything the Browns are after. So was Gailey. They seem to be doing a lot of due diligence but I'd be shocked if it's not DeFilippo at this point.

I'm split on whether or not I, as a fan, even want the Browns to interview Gase if he decides he wants to. Not because of spite, but because he clearly doesn't want to be here. Why go through another Kyle Shanahan? I don't want to be hearing about him being half-way invested in the Browns and looking for a better gig..

1. Nobody has ever accused Shanahan of not being 100% committed to the Browns. Everyone liked him here and wanted him to return. He clearly grew tired of this organization and chose to leave on his terms after the season was completed. I don't agree with what he did but I can empathize with the fact that he determined that the Browns might not be an ideal situation for him while he's looking to advance his career. Make no mistake, coaches advance their careers through having success. I don't know of anyone who could say with a straight face that the Browns gave Shanahan as much help offensively as possible.

2. In regards to the Browns OC position. The last two OC's here, both highly respected in NFL circles, quit due to upper management meddling. To be honest, I don't think Gase is stupid enough to interview here. If you're trying to advance your career, why would you come here? I love the Browns, but if I were building a football coaching career, I would not take a job here. Would you?

3. What the Browns will do is hire an unknown or a desperate re-tread and hope they hit a homerun-- that's all they can do at this point. Everyone avoiding this organization is further proof of where the problem lies within the organization. That doesn't mean we can't find a good OC or the new OC can't be successful but man, striking out on nearly every candidate two years in a row is just too telling with what people think of this organization within the NFL.

We are really nut-deep dumpster diving.

I'll be supporting this guy. Hope he's the right guy. For those who like Gase the Great, people compare DeFilippo to him. DeFilippo just was, I suppose, more confident in his ability to coach up a sub-par offense.

The thing that makes me support the hire the most is we can likely expect DeFilippo to be in Cleveland for more than one year (provided the team doesn't crash & burn) and the fact that it's been reported that Pettine is partial to him.

Question now is... Who's the Asst HC and guy who will help DeFilippo & Pettine with offensive play-calling? Maybe that explains the rumors about guys like Martz & Saunders.

I like the move. Not a retread, and you've gotta like the job he did with Derek Carr. Hope we keep a zone blocking scheme, though, because it fits our OL talent much better.
