Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Who said anything about going completely public about the details of his recovery program? I'm just asking him to acknowledge he went to the program because his life was getting out of hand. He's taking steps to improve himself personally and professionally. He's working hard every day to earn the trust of his teammates and coaches, etc.

I don't need to hear the gory details, I just want him to step up and stop ducking media availability. Get it out, move on a focus on football.

Couldn't of said it better myself.

Now I give it to him that pretty much no Browns are talking to the media right now, but when he does, I want it to be him up there, not hiding behind a scripted letter/special on ESPN where he will know every single question ahead of time so his team can write out his fairy tale answers. Honestly, when that happens, I think he will win back some "gusto" from the fans/media. Even though CLE media can ask some of the dumbest ass questions ever. And as the famous line in here goes, then prove it on the field.

I get it that "Talk is Talk", but sooner or later he is going to be answering questions about it. Might as well get it out of the way. We can hear from his teammates that he is staying hours after and coming in hours before, but we aren't in grade school anymore. You don't need the cool kid to be doing all of your talking. Step up, address, and show us on & off you can be the QB to take us to the heavens.

EDIT: When did we ever say he has to talk about DETAILS of his program?

I’m going to continue to ask folks to try to respect my privacy as I determine to what degree I am comfortable talking about a subject which I consider very personal.

When he gets in front of a microphone, the media are going to want to ask questions about it. He should open up and say what he has to, what he feels comfortable saying, and then request no more questions about it be asked.

A distraction for who, exactly? Is there any evidence that the fangasm over this issue is actually affecting him or the team? Or is it just "Inquiring minds want to know!"

You're kidding yourself if you think the whispers are limited to TMZ-esqe fans.

I think the whispers themselves are TMZ-esque, whether someone is a football fan or not. There is absolutely nothing productive about it -- it is just muckraking for its own sake.

Here's what Phills says he wants:

That's not even asking a question. It's asking him to "acknowledge" some factual narrative you already believe to be the case simply because you want to hear it come out of his mouth. It's nothing more than demanding the proverbial pound of flesh, and for what? If there's one thing on which everyone agrees, it is that nothing Manziel says is going to mean jack shit, and the only thing that matters is what he does on the actual football field. He cannot possibly "win" by opening himself up to the media.

So, after everyone agrees that nothing he says means jack shit, you're nevertheless demanding that he come out, do a mea culpa, and address the media. Do you see why I'm having a hard time with that? Either what he says matters, or it doesn't. I say it doesn't.

In addition, the thought that he should just come out and do this so as to "put it all behind him so he can just concentrate on football" is a pipedream. As soon as he starts talking about it publicly, they will never stop pestering him for more details about what he did, who he is with, was he at such and such bar on Friday, etc. etc. etc. Talking about it with the media won't end the conversation and speculation -- it will simply open the floodgates.

And for all we know, his counselors/sponsor/whomever advised him not to talk about this publicly.

Not talking to the media at this point is concentrating just on football, and just on performance on the field.

The only thing this is a distraction towards is how ESPN builds their coverage.

It shouldn't affect the players or coaches one little bit.

I agree. There exists a difference between shouldn't and doesn't. In this situation, we're talking about the reality of it, not the theory.

My perception of him has been and remains that he's immature and not ready to be a leader. He's been the frat boy who needs constant attention. He loves to be on the cover of magazines and the lead story on Sportscenter. He loves all that comes with it, the parties, the girls, the notoriety. He couldn't get enough of it.

Now when things don't look so great for him, he hides from cameras and media availability. Him hiding speaks more to his character than anything else. There are times in life where you have to stand up there with your hat in your hand and take responsibility. If you love the attention when things are good you better be prepared to accept it when things are bad.

Ultimately, he's going to show people on the football field if he has the chops to be a player and a leader. Maybe he can. I hope for the Browns sake he can. But the longer he stays silent and the more he makes his teammates answer for him, the harder it is for him to earn the respect of the locker room and the coaching staff.

As am I, and I'm curious as to how watching Johnny Manziel keep the story alive by calling a press conference to talk about what the players already know about it going to suppress a "distraction."

With all due respect, I think you're making a way bigger deal about this then it deserves.

I don't think he's hiding from the media at all. I believe that he has come to realize that if he came and said that he's better and he's sorry and blah, blah, blah that it will mean nothing.

Actions are the most important thing at this point after he spent last year giving everyone the song and dance at the beginning of the year about being able to live his life as long as he was prepared and then at the end of the year about how he messed up and was going to change only to be found days later in clubs across the US being a jackass again.

I mean at this point he's fucked either way. When he was the frat boy spinning his eddie haskell bullshit all over the media people hated him. Now that he's trying to go the other way and worry about actually becoming a better player he's an asshole for hiding from the media.

The distraction is the guessing and speculation. You can probably understand that there is going to be talk about his issues within the locker-room.

I don't want to keep going with this. I don't fully feel one way about it, just am trying to provide a thought as to how his offseason situation's lack of closure might linger into conversations within the team..

JFF is joining Lakewood Country Club. It's a nice place. Good burger. Good choice.

The guessing is done more by fans than coaches or players.

Those guys generally know what's up.

The former Heisman Trophy winner issued a statement through the Browns on Friday.

"I would like to thank my family, friends, the Browns organization, my teammates and Browns fans everywhere for your patience, understanding, and support during my stay at Caron," said Manziel on Friday. "The doctors and staff have been amazing and what I've learned in the last couple of months has been tremendous. I owe private apologies to a lot of people that I disappointed, but a very public one to the Browns organization and the fans that I let down."
"I take full responsibility for my actions and it's my intention to work very hard to regain everyone's trust and respect," Manziel continued. "I understand that will take time and will only happen through what I do and not what I say."

seems like Manziel has already talked about the matter and is being consistent with what he has been saying. from the end of the season to the beginning training camp,

Police: Man assaults women after propositioning them
Man allegedly slapped two women after they refused to sleep together

A Sandusky man allegedly assaulted two young women after they turned down his propositions early Thursday.

Chris Gonos, 33, of the 2500 block of 13th St., was charged with one count of disorderly conduct while intoxicated. Assault charges could be forthcoming.

Sandusky police were called to 13th Street and Alpine Drive at 3:40 a.m. and officers were soon approached by two 21-year-old women who live in Cedar Point Commons.

The women said they met “Chris” earlier in the night at Crow Bar and decided to go back with him to his home, according to a Sandusky police report.

“Once inside, Chris wanted (the women) to have sex with each other,” the report stated. When the pair said they would not, Gonos allegedly got angry and slapped both of them across the face. The women ran outside and called police.

When officers questioned Gonos, he appeared highly intoxicated — he was slurring, had bloodshot eyes, and was unsteady on his feet, the report said. Gonos claimed the women refused to leave his house and had slapped him in the face, the report said.

The women both wanted to pursue assault charges against Gonos, but because they'd also been drinking, officers told them to come to the police station Thursday to fill out witness statements and sign charges. The women filled out statements on Thursday, but additional charges had not been leveled as of Thursday evening, police said.

Gonos was taken to the Erie County jail, then later posted a $1,500 bond and was released.

In recent months, Gonos has had other run-ins with law enforcement.

In November, he allegedly got into a skirmish with Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel's entourage at a downtown Cleveland hotel. Gonos was left with a swollen eye and lip, but did not press charges.

In 2014, Gonos and family members pleaded guilty in federal court to financial crimes related to tax evasion and cash smuggling. The family owns Dianna's Deli restaurants in Perkins Township and Port Clinton, as well as the Depot Family Restaurant in Sandusky.

Gonos received two years probation for those crimes.
