Johnny Manziel: Swan Won't Return His Calls

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I've never said that an algorhythm has bias against a player. I've said PFF stats shouldn't be the totem pole to which all performances are judged, because that is also what they said on their own website. Its a single lens among many through which you view play, not even close to the only lens.

But it's "dumb," because it doesn't take into account sustained drives? When every other lens by which we measure QBs includes the same oversight?

Interesting take.

Sustaining drives doesn't matter in football. Interesting, as well.

This is a poor attempt, even for you.

How has that even been implied here?

I'm for all intents and purposes saying Manziel was worse than Hoyer was over the last four weeks.

Just brutal trolling work here.

What's the likelihood we could get the team name changed to something better? If you change it, you're not beholden to the stupid brown color that every other team in the world is smart enough not to use.'

This team needs a drastic overhaul of their brand.

All stat algorithms don't take sustained drives into account. AKA, they don't matter if you judge by PFF (or other) grading systems. Pretty obvious connection.

You're reaching really hard here, try not making it so personal.

That strawman is beneath this board, honestly.

You guys are arguing about nothing. Anytime you examine a system with multiple degrees of freedom (variables), no single value is going to be able to express all qualities of an arbitrary state.

That's the inherent problem with using a single statistic to quantify an event. However, that doesn't mean that the statistic is any less useful. It just means that they need to be taken for what they are. A one dimensional scale to represent select key variables given certain weights. Obviously there are many things debatable about this. The weights given to the accounted for variables and the unaccounted for variables are the two blatant ones.

However, that should be understood as the nature of the beast.

I'm surprised some of the fans let you get away with this comment.

Frankly, I agree. Need a name change, new colors, new everything. I don't even like saying Brown.

Can we please stop arguing over statistical algorithms and get back to name calling please ?

-5.0 from PFF. So he technically wasn't worse than 3 of Hoyer's last 4 starts (-2.8, -5.6, -5.0, -7.6). Still abysmal though.

technically he sucked more dick than a 5 dollar whore on the vegas strip. anyone that watched yesterdays game and thought "man i know manziel sucked, but i would rather have them than hoyer" needs to be put in a fucking mental institution, and never again express their opinion about the sport of football.

manziel, by any fucking metric known to man was not only bad, he was historically bad.

i am absolutely convinced you run that site.

Let's just leave it without any personal attacks... PFF ranks comparing one QB to another QB is going to be a myopic view and other stats/eye test need to be added in the discussion. PFF is reputable, but shouldn't be a stand alone argument, as they themselves say in the website.

I do think it was worth discussing why they only had Johnny Rotten at the number he reached compared to the number they came to the past few weeks with Hoyer. That was very beneficial.

“I’m not using the rookie excuse -- it’s not me,” Manziel said. “Yeah, I’m a rookie, but that’s out the window. I needed to play better.”

“I felt like I would come out and play better and that didn’t happen,” said Manziel, who finished 10-of-18 for 80 yards, two interceptions and 13 rushing yards. “I’m disappointed and these guys are too. For me, it’s a fresh start and we can move on from here to try and build something to carry us into next year.”

“I saw what I wanted to see and didn’t have enough confidence in myself to let it fly,” Manziel said. “I saw what I wanted and I ripped that all week through practice and when it came down to it, just a split-second hesitation and in the NFL, I learned hard today, they can undercut that and they can get to that ball.

“I saw the field fine today but when I came down to it, I just needed to throw the ball and let it rip, and I didn’t do a very good job of that.”

this doesnt sound like the qb everyone keeps talking about. not alot fo guys would own up to a lack of confidence.

Yes he sucked, but at the end of the day it's one game and it counts the same as if he would have played amazing and lost. If Hoyer gets 4 games of absolute shit play, then we might as well give Manziel the next two.

Historically there's been worse.
