Jon Leuer (assigned to D-League again, 1/3)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

Prediction: AC butchers his name for approximately 40 games.

Nice signing though. Sign of things to come because of fit with a certain center....? Perhaps!

As a starter he averaged 8 pts and 3 rebs in 18 mpg...on 56% shooting. Awesome % for a shooter. Usually the younger guys have a crappy percentage but not this case. According to 82games.com he plays much much better as a PF (though who knows how accurate that really is)....PER is 17.9 vs. 10.3 for opponents.

Solid.

Don't know much about him.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

Leur>>>>>Bynum

At least in terms of attitude and team-first mindset.

I like the range too, and that dunk against dwight howard was pretty nasty

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

haha Rodea just gave me a shout out on the air as he did not know we had claimed him until I tweeted him.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

Leuer had some nice games with the bucks. I never understood what the bucks were thinking not playing him more. Cavs FO has strengthened that front line very well using minimal resources. I think this is an indicator we are preparing for the day when we trade Andy to a contender.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

Hey all, I went to Wisconsin and watched just about every single one of his games there. Leuer was a really interesting player because he was a PG and SG in high school until he shot up about 8 inches in one year. He has a decent handle to the ball and is a really good passer. He sees the floor and knows how to space. As a spot up shooter, he's really proficient. The problem is, along with the benefits of shooting up 8 inches are the downfalls. He's never really gotten the grasp of playing a strong defensive 4. He's very soft and only a so-so rebounder. If paired with a defensive big, Leuer is perfect to stretch the floor and get dishes from those who are cutting into the lane. I am really stoked about this claim and I guarantee you that he will have a spot on this roster coming out of camp. He's a unbelieveably hard worker and he is always shooting in the gym.

This guy is VERY underrated. Good pickup.

They aren't exactly known for making smart decisions.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

Great move!!

I wanted him in the second round in 2011 and was genuinely pissed that the Cavs traded the pick away to Orlando instead. I can now completely admit to being wrong because Grant got his man in the end. He looks like a very good stretch four candidate, and might take some minutes from Casspi at the three.

form the cavs and grant

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Cavaliers have claimed forward Jon Leuer off waivers from the Houston Rockets, Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant announced today from Cleveland Clinic Courts. The Rockets waived the forward on Wednesday, July 18.

Leuer, 23, averaged 4.7 points on .508 shooting and 2.6 rebounds in 12.1 minutes per game in 46 games (12 starts) during his rookie season in 2011-12. In his 12 starts, the 6-foot-10, 228-pound forward averaged 7.7 points on .560 shooting and 3.3 rebounds in 17.7 minutes per game.

"Jon is a young, athletic, hard-working post player. He will add depth and also bring a perimeter shooting element to our big positions,” said General Manager Chris Grant. “We’re happy to add Jon to our team and looking forward to his continued growth and development as a Cavalier.”

Prior to the start of the NBA’s 2011-12 regular season, Leuer, the 40th overall selection in the 2011 NBA Draft, signed with the Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt team of the German Bundesliga. He appeared in 10 games and posted averages of 14.8 points on .495 shooting and 7.8 rebounds in 31.6 minutes per game.

He played all four seasons in college at Wisconsin and as a senior was named to the All-Big Ten First Team after averaging 18.3 points on .470 shooting and 7.2 rebounds in 33.5 minutes per game in 34 games.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

I really like Leuer. He's everything Casspi isn't. His game reminds me of Donyell Marshall's but a little more athletic and a much better passer. He could be a great sixth man.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

He's listed at 6'10" but I wasn't sure how tall he really is, so I checked the DX database from last year's draft class and he measured 6'10" in socks and 6'11-1/2" in shoes. If that's accurate (not sure he was at the combine), he's a shade taller than Enes Kanter.

...and a lot thinner.
