Jon Leuer (assigned to D-League again, 1/3)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

This is a good pickup, IMHO. He's the guy I wanted the Cavs to get with the #32 pick in the 2011 draft, mainly because he did so well in the Hollinger draft rater. He had him as the 14th best prospect in the draft.

I was pretty disappointed by the #32 pick in the 2011 draft. I figured that if the Cavs didn't take Valanciunas, they would take Leonard and Leuer. Instead it was Tristan and a trade. Now 13 months later, that trade is looking like a win. The Cavs got Leuer anyway and that trade will probably give them two high second round picks in the next two years. Sometimes this stuff just works out. Let's hope Tristan ends up also being a winning move.

I don't think this is the end of Harangody. Probably just means he plays at the 3 more.

If I'm not mistaken, the Cavs will be able to make him a restricted free agent next year if they keep him.

I don't see the Cavs picking up E'twan Moore. They already have better small guards.

Surprising that he was even available this year. He played well when given minutes with the Bucks. Don't usually say this about a guy who was a second rounder and then available off waivers but based on how he looked and Hollinger's rating, there's a decent possibility we could have got Ryan Anderson 2.0 essentially for nothing.

I think Grant has done a very good and underrated job this offseason: hopefully I'm in the right with this but I think Waiters, Zeller, and now Leuer we could have added three rotation players on a playoff calibre team. (only Waiters has star potential but considering where we were last year this is a huge jump)

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

Leuer could conceivably start if the rest of the lineup went Varejao, Gee, Waiters and Irving.

Mark my words, he will see some time at SF with a Varejao, Thompson lineup.....

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

The bigs are done now.

Kyrie/Gibson
Waiters/Azubukie
Gee/Casspi
Tristian/Leuer/Samuels/Harangody
Andy/Zeller

12 spots (assuming Walton is bought out)

3 spots left over

Jones?? UDFA we signed??? out of WV- had high hopes for him

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

It's looking more and more likely that we are going to trade Andy.

We've got way too many bigs in Varejao, Thompson, Zeller, Samuels, Harangody, Jones, and now Leuer.

Actually what sucks is that we only really have one big...... Varejao.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

If Houston doesnt get Howard, how about AV plus 2nd round Orl pick in 2014 for Lamb and Joseph? houston could also use AV as part of a package for another trade.

Blasphemy. You can never have too many bigs.....

We are so in.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

It's not that we have too many bigs, it's that we have too many developmental power forwards. Thompson, Samuels, Jones, Harangody, and Leuer.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

A team needs four quality bigs in this league, and aside from AV, Zeller, and TT... the fourth spot is up for grabs. IMO, Lauer has a slightly better chance than Samuels and Jones. I have no comment on Harangody.

Unless Harangody is "developing" D-cups this year... only four of the five are actually developmental.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

Harangody and Kevin Jones will anchor our frontline in Canton. Harangody will probably be a D-League all star and top 10 scorer. he won't make any impact for the Cavs and everyone knows that.

Leuers and Samuels will battle it out for the 4th big/meaningful minutes. Samuels was smart to finally work on his body and hopefully Leuers pushing for minutes will help keep his mind focused as well. It's not bad that they have different skill sets as well.

Re: Cavs Sign Jon Leuer (claimed off waivers)

Like the signing, nice young big who could be a solid rotational player.

Suppose it depends how you define it. Zeller is over 7 feet and weighs 250. Andy's shorter and only weighs 10 lbs more.

Curious if/how Michael Eric fits into all this. Lots of positive comments from Cavs on him as a prospect. Big guy, athletic, hard worker. Probably D league for awhile, but apparently the FO is pretty high on him and even described him as "like Ibaka."

All this movement with bigs shows how hard they're working to find the right guys for the rotation and potentially shows that the FO is preparing for moving Andy.
