Josh Gordon discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ok...

If you knew you could get a good to very good WR in this coming draft, would you trade Josh Gordon for Matthew Stafford? Same question then for Nick Foles.

if the browns could pick up stafford for their 2nd rounder.. maybe late first (maybe), and keep josh gordon having stafford may be worth it. but if you dont have gordon, having stafford is a total waste. it was said but when you are throwing to the one of the best WRs ever to play the game, it makes it a hell of a lot easier.

Stafford is worth a hell of a lot more than a late first/early second.

I have a hard time pinpointing what exactly he does well other than showcasing a strong arm and managing to feed the ball to his best target.

I'd rather have both of those guys than another first rounder. You hope your first rounders pan out to be guys that good.

And Funke...Stafford overrated compared to what? I feel like he's rarely in the conversation for top Quarterbacks even though statistically he is one.

See I hear differently. He, from what I see, does not get much criticism. The guy was a #1 pick and, while his stats are good, has not brought his team to the place they expected. Just don't think he is the leader that a Luck, or Wilson is. At #1, I expect you to change the face of a franchise... not make them un-suck and partially relevant.

Sam Bradford is 10x more overrated, in my opinion... for what it is worth.

Yes he has an absolute monster of a wr but even when Johnson was out he was still putting up great numbers with his other receivers. If I am remembering correctly he has taken them to the playoffs before also. (Lazy and on phone)

If Stafford was on the browns I have little doubt that we would not only make the playoffs but comfortably win our division.

I don't think Bradford is overrated at all unless you're talking about his contract. Can't think of many people who are big fans of the way he plays the game.

Meh, they gotta do it in their own division consistently. I personally don't think Stafford has the nuts to be a Super Bowl QB. Plus, he plays half of his games in a dome.

Is this even a possibility? Why is this a discussion?

I don't feel like looking this up on my phone, but how have Stafford's defenses been since he started putting up big offensive numbers? I know they've obviously had some great players, but what kind of points have they been giving up?

How have Stafford's fourth quarter numbers been? Comebacks? Two minute drills?

I'm so on my phone so I apologize for not knowing but I will say this: throughout stafford'a career they have been abysmal on the road. Like horrible.

Three different people on their phones crying laziness within 4 posts of each other. :chuckles: I laughed.

Lions Defensive ranks since Stafford's inception:

2009 - Points: 32 Yards: 32
Team went 2-14

2010 - Points: 19 Yards: 21
Team went 6-10

2011 - Points: 23 Yards: 23
Team went 10-6

2012 - Points: 27 Yards: 13
Team went 4-12

2013 - Points: 18 Yards: 17
Team is 7-6

So to some people's credit, he has dealt with statistically below average defenses.

The difference between Stafford and a truly elite QB?

2011 New England Patriots - Points: 15 Yards: 31
Team went 13-3, Lost Super Bowl

2011 Green Bay Packers - Points: 19 Yards: 32
Team went 15-1

Edit: Josh Gordon Thread... Oh and how about that Josh Gordon!

Josh Gordon was being bandied about for trades because he's allegedly in the third tier of the banned substances policy. If it's true he's in the 3rd tier, that issue hasn't magically vanished due to his impressive on the field play this season.

Let's keep some things in perspective: He had to leave Baylor due to drug use, then allegedly was going to be kept off the field for another year at Utah for a 2nd violation. Instead, he bolted to the NFL, and in less than two years, he has had, if rumors are true, at minimum two more drug violations. Now, during the season, he spends most of his time at team facilities, stays busy, and issues are less likely to come about. The off-season is a different monster. He is one more slip up away from being knocked out for a year. We are taking it on faith that he now "gets it", that he'll be smart and avoid that penalty, but the real world is filled with guys who need to really get their ass handed to them before they take the necessary steps to get their life in order. Some people never get it.

This is all to say Gordon is an amazing athlete, if he keeps his head on straight he may go down as one of the greatest ever, but assuming that he's turned that corner seems to be giving him a lot of credit he doesn't deserve. I still wouldn't be shocked if the FO trades him if the offer was right, yet I doubt it comes because other NFL teams would understand what risk they'd be taking, and wouldn't want to offer up too much value on such a volatile commodity.

If Gordon didn't have the one year suspension hanging over his head, I'd definitely consider him untouchable. But he does, so yes, I would trade him for Stafford. But Detroit wouldn't make that deal.

Lol have fun watching Stafford throw inaccurate jump ball to Greg Little then

Stafford is worth a hell of a lot more than a late first/early second.

He's the equivalent to a chucker in football. Horrible at reading the defense, and just slings the ball around the field half the time. I really don't know why people think he's so good. He has a cannon arm I'll give you that, but a 10 cent head whenever I watch him play.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ - - - you phrased it a lot better than I did.

Middle of the pack in completion. Averages over 1INT per game. One of the smallest YPA in the NFL. They are WCO now, but first two seasons they were not. I don't know, I think people perceive him as worthy of his pick and price and I don't see it.
