Josh Smith Cut

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Aren't Smith and Dwight Howard super close? I would expect Houston.

I wouldn't take Josh Smith even if he came here for free.

I can't understand why Houston is so intent on getting him. Who cares about Dwight's feelings? He's locked up for years. Why bring in a player who can't shoot, put him next to Dwight Howard, and shrink the court for Harden?

Friendship about to be destroyed.

He is the kind of guy you dont take even if you get a pick along with him and he fits into your trade exception. He is like Dion but without talent.

Gonna be Houston.

Which... does that mean that T.Jones or DMo, or heck even Ariza, are expendable?? :praying::praying::praying:
Unfortunately if they were expendable, there is a market for both and we'd have to give to get.

On a related note, if the Rockets sign Smith, I'm going to need to drop D-Mo from my fantasy team

Xactly why they cut him instead of a trade. Basically said GTFO.

Perhaps the best part of all of this was just about everybody outside of Joe Dumars knew this was going to be very bad. This included most random people without any NBA experience whatsoever. The league has been trending towards more spacing for quite awhile now, so they bring in Josh Smith and trade for Brandon Jennings to compliment the the square peg/round-hole front court of Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe.

He's still a very good defender, but the offense is so bad that he's been a huge net negative for the Pistons. I don't think he can ever play a role again on a winning team but if he did, he might be valuable. Pop or Carlisle might be able to control him. He might be even worse now that he's getting "Fuck you money" anyway in addition the minimum (probably) some team will give him. Or, in the right situation, he might actually play a role and help a team win using the things he's actually good at. Highly doubtful, but someone like Pop could get the best out of him.

Dwight Howard was the best man at Smith's wedding. The speculation is coming from that and the fact that the Rockets were interested in Smith sign and trade for Smith this summer after they let Parsons go and missed out on Bosh & Melo. Houston can offer him the BAE too. Seems like a good fit.

Terrence Jones, Donatas, Ariza, Brewer, Josh Smith, Dwight...that's so much length and athleticism in the 3-5 spot.

Teams will plant there PF next to the rim and Houston preaches layups/3s. You know damn well smith will take the 3s not a fit.

Josh Smith has more talent.

But he's just a dumb basketball player who doesn't understand how to fit into a team.

McHale is gonna lose a lottt of hair if Josh ends up in HOU.

Defensively, they're gonna take another level. Offensively ? Well, let's just hope Smith is ready to take the most corner threes of his entire career. It'll be a dream come true for him. Especially considering they'll be open, unlike the ones he's put up his entire career.
