Jovan Belcher and Gun Control

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
so your'e saying because people die nothing at all should be done to improve safety? That the death of Kasandra Perkins is part of an acceptable number?

I just googled "child accidentally shot" and hit news to get the recent news stories on this topic - there were 9,370 results. Just ignore the issue and consider all of those children to be part of an acceptable number?

You have to study and pass a test that shows you are a responsible driver to drive a car. Show you are irresponsible and your driving privileges are revoked. People on this thread talk about if gun owners are responsible, accidents can be avoided. The problem is, irresponsible people are also able to get guns with no training whatsoever on gun safety. The problem is they aren't just putting themselves in danger, they are putting other people in danger.

Those people are called criminals, or they are the children of those irresponsible people who haven't taken the time to educate themselves on the proper handling of a weapon.

In the state of Ohio you are required to do 10 hours of in-class learning and 2 hours of range time before you are able to obtain your concealed handgun license. That's a positive...that so-called 'safety' you speak of. Train people to use weapons, just as you would train someone driving a vehicle.

However, I still disagree that I have to have a license (and pay for it) to use my 2nd amendment right. However, implementing safety as a prerequisite makes it a little easier to swallow.

Lets face it, if there is a foreign invasion any civilian weapon is useless vs an invaiding army. The use of sophisticated weapons, manned and unmanned air attacks, tanks, bombs, etc makes assault weapons look like cap guns. The same can be said if the government turned on us. So tell me why are assault weapons useful?

Someone who is well trained with a .22 caliber pistol can kill someone just as easy as someone with a .45, if they know what they are doing. Any civilian weapon would not be rendered useless. That is all.

Citizens out number the military over 4 to 1...........I ain't scurred.

Its not about the Invasion. its about maintaining control. The US is also huge geographically. how long could a rogue dictatorship or an outside military force reasonably control of an armed 200 million population spread out over 3.6 million square miles.

Except the army has tanks and missles and grenades and u will come out with a shot gun like in a Clint Eastwood movie? Feelin Lucky Punk ?

There's a reason we have an Electromagnetic Pulse Commission. An EMP would render anythiing with electronics useless...jets, tanks, missiles, drones, cars, phones, etc. It would knock any are impacted area back into the stoneage. Or if China or someone figures out a way to take down the grid with a cyberattack, our military and law enforcement would deteriorate pretty quickly. At that point it's every man for himself. I should have the right at that point to defend my castle with automatic weapons. There are no guarantees anymore. Even if there's a complete financial collapse, law enforcement and military won't be able to control everyone...it will get extremely ugly.

Like ants trying to take on a tank. I hate you the most on RCF.

How many kids died from automobiles? Google that. How many kids have childhood diabetes?

Accidents happen. They happen with guns. They happen with cars. They happen with life.

We're only human. Accidents will always happen. You can't prevent them.

If you have Netflix you should watch a series called America: The story of US. See how tough people used to be. That's who made this country what it is. Show some respect for the freedoms given to you and those who died to protect them.

I once saw a documentary called A Century of Living. A woman in there was over 100 years old and had 14 children. She had that many because "back then you had to have a bunch to ensure some would make it." 12 of her children died before age 17. She said she had a son and a daughter left. Her son was 32 and all he wanted to do in the world was climb the alps. He died climbing the alps. They asked if she was sad by this. She replied "not really, he died doing what he loved, how many people can say that." Her daughter lived to be 68 and gave her 2 grandchildren of which she was grateful for.

It was a different time back then and people understood death. If a child was killed by a tractor or some other farm equipment they didn't ban farming. Accidents will happen. It's not that people think they're acceptable. It's just that we're human and mistakes will happen. Some time ago people understood this.

First of all your definition of an assault rifle from an earlier post would include pistols,
shotguns, and most rifles excluding bolt action and lever action rifles.

How do you think dictators come in to power? A well armed civilian population is not an appropriate answer. I believe Hitler even took his citizens guns before taking over Germany.

Our Military is 2 million strong. Even with all the technology imagine 250 million people armed to confront them. It's not perfect but it's enough to scare anyone with bad intentions. Now imagine the actual 60 million gun owners in this country with flare guns when the gun control crowd get's their way. Which do you want protecting you.

China has as many people in their military as we have citizens. 2 million armed or 300 million armed? Which do you prefer?

It's a stupid phrase but freedom isn't free. The only reason you have the privilege of speaking out against your own freedoms today is because of all those guns in this country for 200+ years. They're what insured no one invaded from outside or within and kept our freedom.

Has anyone noticed that Max has become crazier and crazier lately? It's as if he's got Damage whispering in one ear and X tonguing the other.

Tanks need gas and maintenance equipment and ammunition. Guess who makes and supplies that stuff. Ever heard of supply lines? Who's going to cut them off if nobody has weapons. At least the children will be safe. Or will they?

KI and Phills1 do you think it's acceptable that citizens have access to such murderous devices? Do you think because we license drivers that these kids deaths are acceptable. See what I did there.

The interesting thing is guns are such a small cause of child deaths and even adult deaths. So why do they get the most attention? Ask yourself that.

Water is 4 times more deadly than guns to children. BAN IT!

... which is also considered to be one of the best (if not the best) military in the world. One with access to all sorts of machinery and ordinance that ordinary citizens would more likely than not have no access to. And of course, you have elite special operations personnel like the Army Rangers that have access to advanced weaponry and equipment that even the rest of the military has only heard about, if that.

Not only that, but military personnel are also trained to engage and destroy the enemies of the United States and the Constitution. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of citizens who own firearms do it purely for sport and for hunting, not with the intent to kill another human being. Also, don't forget that the military is being specifically trained in not only traditional battlefield techniques and maneuvers, but also in a lot of urban warfare (moving between cover in city environments, room breaching, breaching and clearing buildings, etc.).

But, with all that being said I think you'd really be hard-pressed to find members of our military that would actually repress an open revolt against the government, imo. In my experience, the people that join out of a sense of patriotism or whatever believe more in serving the people of the US and the Constitution, not the government.

At this point, it's all just speculation and heresay. Here's hoping that we never have to find out what a beefed up and active military presence within our own borders would be like. I would really hate to be on either side of it if/when it does happen.

Marcus, I am positive 99.9% of our military is on our side if shit goes down.

I think it is safe to say we sit on different sides of this issue and neither is going to change the others mind. For further clarification, how would you define assault weapons?
