JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Some of you idiots need to ease up on JR... It's not like the guy is trying to miss shots, he probably wants to make them so bad he's pressing which could be a reason he's struggling. The dude has been great for us all year, and now that he's having a rough couple of games people are already starting to turn on him? That's pathetic and if you're turning on him right now after all he's done for this team this last half of the season, you're not a real Cavs fan. JR has made countless big shots for us this year, he's bought into playing defense and being a team player, he's also been great in the team chemistry department.
I think you're taking this all too seriously. People aren't really mad at JR per se. We're mad that JR is missing shots we know he's capable of making. No one is "turning on him."

I like this idea as an adjustment to GS small ball and defense they showed in game four. If they trap Lebron, after he makes his first pass that player should swing the ball and the next needs to shoot or attack.

I like the idea of a hybrid small lineup keeping Mozgov on the floor vs their smalls but replacing Tristan with Jones because running sets through Moz adds another element to our offense and Jones and Smith open the floor for hockey assists.

If GS wants to stay small they showed no answer for Moz. I am envisioning sets similar to the magic with Howard and shooters except spearheaded by Lebron.

At this point everyone on our team is gritty and Shumpert, Thompson and Delly still need to bring that to win.
I'm for that lineup change too but Blatt loves TT. He's shown to choose TT as our big but Moz is actually a post scorer. Surround him with shooters and LeBron of course.

This is an interesting observation. Haven't thought of that.

I think the larger issue with JR is it's one thing when we are relying on him to be effectively a 4th option scorer like most of the season behind LBJ/Kyrie/Love.

But just like with the Knicks, when you are relying on him to be effectively a 2nd option scorer with all of our injuries - his erratic play becomes more of an issue and he starts to press.

Still - we're not asking for the world. We're just asking for one big game from him. We need one Boobie Gibson Game 6 from him. Instead, he's doing the basketball equivalent of playing in his feces and using them as a kind of palette to draw on the bathroom walls. We need him to get cleaned up, compose himself, and help around the house, because Dad and Mom are worn out from 18-hour days.

He is the difference maker here in terms hitting those 3s (like Iggy was for GSW in both of their wins).

That moment you realize your team's championship hopes are riding on J.R Smith...

If i'm Blatt and given (1) Shumpert's not 100% and (2) JR does better starting fresh with LeBron then i'm seriously considering putting JR back into the starting lineup and letting Shump break Golden State's offense down on the bench before he comes off the bench.

There is no doubt that JR is having a really bad series but I think everything that has offensively been bad for the Cavs is directly related to the awful picks and screens we set. JR has not had too much space when he gets the ball. He has had his times that he is wide open but he is thinking too much and not letting it fly. I watch his off the ball movement and his guy is not far off him because it is easy to fight through these weak ass picks/screens.

JR doesn't LIKE space. He's shoots better with a hand in his face. Doesn't matter - still can't hit the broad side of a barn.

He likes space as well. He usually gets hot by nailing an open jumper, then he goes into NBA Jam mode.

We need to get JR some open looks. Have him set picks for LeBron and pop out to an open area of the 3 point line. It worked well all season.

Didn't realize all the cheerleaders this guy has

I hold the team over anyone

So if he's stinking up the joint I sure as hell will call it out

Hoping the coaches and players are doing what they can to reorient JR mentally. If Cavs win 2 more from here no one will care about the previous games. JR seemed lost in his struggles the other night after the game. He needs to go out and play. I believe he can do this. He's not a guy who is a nightly 2nd scorer, but if he just goes out there and doesn't overthink things and just plays as he has all year since the trade, sometimes it just happens.

What's concerning are JR's statements about other things going on - that implies more than just a random slump that can be swapped out of easily.

Not that this is relevant right now, but if he doesn't snap out of this, his contractual value since the Atlanta series will have cratered, because it will have confirmed the core fears about him. No team will invest significant money in him.

I'm thinking the dude may have a bit of Delonte in him.

So he has "other things going on" but he comes to the game on a fuckin remote segway ?

Stay true J.R.

need to run some plays for him the moment he steps in the game not let him go iso. Lebron and Delly been taking a lot of the shots when he comes in. Hell Delly needs to calm down with his shooting. Been seeing horrible shot selection. I still can't get over that single leg 3pter he tried to take.

I can live with it. When everyone else on the floor is seemingly hiding from the moment, Delly is trying to grab it by the balls.
