JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd like a 4yr/20m with team option on the 4th year. Fair deal I say.

Max contract time! Forget Love, Earl Smith Jr. is where it's at!

Seriously though, JR has value above the amount he was set to make. Not much more above that however. They both want to get it done so it'll likely happen. If some crazy team comes along and grabs him for a stupid price, so long JR.

I'm pretty curious to see how this goes. Given his recent suspension and performance in the Finals, I don't see him getting much more than that from anyone else, and I also hope we don't pay him much more than that. I like JR and hope he stays, but I also wouldn't be terribly upset if he left.

He'll be 30 in November, is really only useful to contenders and he opted out of a 6.4 million dollar deal.

So that leads me to believe he likely wants a one year opt out at a higher number or something like a 3 year, 21-24 million dollar deal that gives him more guaranteed money.

When looking at his potential suitors (with cap money), there aren't many that make a lot of sense. Interestingly enough, the Hawks may be the best fit for him.....given style of play and roster. Korver is really the only rotational SG they have.

I'd bring JR back around 7 million a year....any more and we are probably better served trying to find someone in free agency.

I'd say for both the player and the team you want to do a 3 year deal, with either a player option or a non guaranteed 3rd year. So maybe, 3 years, 20 million.

This gives JR the enticement of maintaining his focus and game to possibly cash out one last time in the 108 million salary cap summer of 20-17-2018.

It gives the Cavs the flexibility of only two more years of guaranteed money for a player who has had issues in the past and a contract that becomes very traceable after just 1 year, if necessary

JR might have made a very big mistake. We'll see.

if anything this gives the cavs more flexibility to use the haywood contract and have JR come back at their price (if at all).

I don't think so.

I think the goal was always to get more guaranteed money even if it took more years.

But JR is the least likely to return as far as our FA's go. Still think its more than likely he returns.

Two year deal at the most. You just can't trust this flake beyond that.

Something like 2 years, 16M with the 2nd year non or partially guaranteed is the ideal scenario for me. He gets a little more than the 6.4M he opted out of for next season and the Cavs are protected from him blowing up.

If JR had opted in, I'm guessing that he had no protections from the Cavs then trading him -- and he'd have no control over that.

By opting out and then re-signing, perhaps he can get some trade protection for at least the first year. I don't know if this factored in to his thinking.

Has anyone besides RealGM guy reported this?

I think it just has more to do with guaranteed money.

He's past the point of big contracts, so playing on a one year deal makes little sense.

He's better off opting out, negotiating a 2-3 year deal and locking in more than the 6.4 million he was owed this season.

I think trading him isn't a realistic thought, given the Knicks had to give us Shumpert just to take him off their hands. When something like that happens, it's a pretty good indication he lacks value around the league.
