JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
JR is a role player. He is one insane shooter when he is hot. And will drive you insane when he is cold. Truth be told I love the guy as a bench player. Come in, knock down 3-4 3's in a row.........just don't rely on him to start and play 30 minutes a game. The consummate ROLE player. And is excellent at it.

Obviously I feel most would like him back, despite the struggle in the finals. He was just asked to do too much guarding Klay for stretches and trying to be a bigger scoring option than what he's capable of. For the right price I'd like him back. Hopefully if he opts out he's open to a similar price tag for an extended period of 3-4 years. If he's trying to leverage more money, he might get burned by the Haywood asset.

JR had the time of his life with us. And no other coach has loved him and believed in him like Blatt has. He won't leave. Wouldn't be surprised if we could get him for a discount if we wanted to play hardball, but we probably won't. We should retain him at a reasonable price though.

^ No. Read the Chris Haynes Tweet above.

I guess we will find out soon.

Maybe it was mentioned here but I saw someone on Twitter mention that since it's a player option, no action is required on his part.

If he doesn't file paperwork to pick it up, it just expires and he becomes a free agent.

This sounds right. I think everyone is getting mixed up because the phrase "opt-out" keeps getting used. But the action J.R. has to take it to actually pick up his player option. It isn't an early-termination option.

"Because I got high... Because I got high... Because I got hhhiiiggghh"

He was asked to do what he was brought in to do which is play good defense and hit shots. He did neither. The excuse of he didn't play well because they asked him to be the "2nd/3rd option" is bogus. They asked him to be a Fiat and he ran like a Pinto. He mailed it in after reaching the finals.

I don't think he mailed it in - I think he fell apart. He was TRYING; he just came unglued.
