JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Can we pay JR this summer? Please say yes....I want a JR Smith jersey.

The thing about JR is his defense has actually been quite good. The whole point of starting Shump was that presumably he was the superior wing defender, and he is, but JR has actually been hustling his ass off on defense and his length/athleticism has been nothing to sneeze at.

Also I think you could make a case that part of the reason JR is playing such disciplined ball, is exactly because he is out there with LBJ/Kyrie/Love. If you give him free reign off the bench that could get him back into bad habits.

I think you keep him in the starting lineup too, and I agree with your reasoning. They need him for the spacing actually too. Shump doesn't space that way. Shump can come in as a situational defender. Bring JR and Love in while Kyrie and Lebron are out or something, but I think sending JR to the bench makes him back into a chucker. Right now he has to defer due to the guys out there with him.

I actually think JR will be easier to keep this summer (and have both sides agree to a contract quicker) than Shumpert. And I say that knowing full well that Shumpert is a restricted free agent.

It's so weird though that JR and Shump always have their off shooting nights on the same day. :chuckle: But then usually they'll also be both hitting their shots during the same game, which are usually the games where we score 120+.

To show you the value of being on a good team:

JR has played exactly 24 games this season each with the Cavs and the Knicks

His offensive rating and defensive ratings for the Knicks this season were 95 and 112. Both are career lows for him.

His offensive rating and defensive ratings for the Cavs this season are 111 and 106. The best of his career.

Damn impressive

How much will he demand to stay with the Cavs? Is he exercising that player option?

The market for JR Smith is going to be interesting.
-As GM with bad team with cap space I want nothing to do with him
-As GM for playoff team though I'd be willing to throw him a nice but short term contract. The problem is these teams typically don't have a lot of cap space.
And with playoff team I'm specifically speaking about title contenders with a structured star system in place, not fringe teams

J.R. Seems like the prime "new cap" example.

He'd be smart to just pick up his player option and then hit the market when teams have astronomical amounts of money to spend. That will include many contending teams. They would then have 2 years of film on him playing a really strong role on a top tier team and probably feel comfortable paying him far more than he would get this off-season.

Anyone who overpays for jr will regret it. I think people underestimate the impact lebron has in helping jr stay within the team concept

He has been the positive surprise of the season.

Was just about to post this as well. It's pretty cool how much fun they are having and how happy he seems. He never posted stuff like this with the Knicks.
Lebron has to be one of the best teammates for a superstar. Nobody seems to like playing with Carmelo or Kobe, but everyone wants to play with Lebron.

Lebron seems to put a premium on his friendships. His friends become his brothers and he seems very loyal to them. I think that he genuinely is likable and as he has gotten older, is really doing a good job of taking on that big brother role where he is encouraging the guys. I have honestly been very pleased with his reactions to Kyrie in-game. You can tell that Lebron knows just how special a player Kyrie is and I think Lebron's influence on Kyrie is very plain to see. It's also very obvious that Lebron likes JR and vice versa. All of the guys brought in via trade have been greatt for team chemistry.
