JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He intended to keep Crowder the fuck off him. Two elbows in the back after Crowder tried to shoulder check him in the lane. Refs not calling shit. He used bad judgment in the way he swung his arm and should have never balled his fist.

To call that a sucker punch though is laughable.

For all his upright play/behavior following the trade to Cleveland, JR threw it all away with that punch.

Love was already gone with an injury and Perkins had retaliated on Crowder.

Have any of you ever seen an NBA player swing his arm back toward another player as violently as JR without it being intentional? Cherry on top was the closed fist.

As to not going for the head shot, when an opponent is
riding your back with his arm on your back/head, you have a pretty good idea where the head will be found.

We saw a tip on the old JR earlier in the series with the jersey tuck mock at the refs.

When you have a time bomb, odds are it will eventually go off. And it this case, the explosion comes at a meaningless moment in the game against a team only minutes from elimination.

Childish behavior in a mans' game.

Why be so anxious to make excuses for a player willingly jeopardizing the teams'
playoff chances?

Why are you so anxious to abandon a player whose done nothing but good since he got here? Yeah he lost his head and it will cost us for a game. But you act like dude took a guys shoulder out the socket on purpose or something. People mess up its normal.

You were just waiting all season to say something about JR weren't you

Love was already gone with an injury and Perkins had retaliated on Crowder.

Which stopped Crowder from antagonizing people......oh wait, it didn't.

Look at the lead up to that play. Crowder could have and should have been called for a foul 2-3 times.

JR should obviously take responsibility for his actions but the officials let the game get out of hand.

They should have been doling out techs and fouls like it was going out of style once Perk leveled him.

Instead they kept Perk in the game, let rough play continue and then the culmination was JR just saying fuck it and hitting someone.

There's blame to spread around. It wasn't as if it was business as usual and JR decided to just go off the rails and hit someone. Doesn't fully excuse it but it is bullshit if it is not taken in to account when assessing a punishment.

Its funny, I remember people making the same arguments in favor of Artest that many have made here in JR's favor. The exact same arguments.

In any case, thinking that the NBA is going to take into account Crowder's shoves is probably looking at this through wine and gold-colored glasses. Here's the counterargument: By claiming they are giving him a shorter suspension because of what Crowder was doing means that, on some level, the league is condoning Smith's retaliation. That's the last thing they'll want, and that's why I've stood by my stance that he'll get multiple games.

You are absolutely wrong on my stance on JR. I'm not abandoning JR, only pointing out his selfish/insane behavior has jeopardized the Cavs chances for the
championship.

I also believe the officiating had a big role in the latter actions on the court. But champions, particularly key rotation players, keep their cool, not succumb to the punk level of the opposition.

Really starting to worry that the league is going to give JR the pipe... as in, multiple games. Sure hope I'm wrong.

I dont understand the suspension.

Crowder was shoving hard JR's back and behind the neck twice which is dangerous before the JR's retaliation.
You serious? A little shove for position does not equal a full closed fist intentional punch right to the chops

Jr will be gone for the series it seems

Oh well
MIKE MILLER you were built for this

So what do you want to call it? Unwarranted surprise closed fist to face contact?

I think it is possible the NBA is waiting to make decision after the Cavs release a statement on Love. The NBA needs Bulls Cavs series to be good, for ratings...

Stu Jackson, former head of NBA officials, says it is no secret that a players' history absolutely factors into consideration for suspension.

He says if he were making the decision, the penalty would be 2-3 games. He adds that playoff suspensions are normally lighter, so he expects 2 games.

He says it was definitely a reckless, non-basketball play and that when a player puts themselves in that kind of position , bad things can result.
