Keep Heckert Here

I want to Start a petition for a Pyro Vs b00bie UFC match after this thread.

That, and the NFL wanted to return to a market that just as quickly promised a new stadium and a huge expansion franchise fee if the name could be secured. Money drove that decision as much as letters did.

There it is.

Allow me to play Optomist.. He has, thus far, put together a 2-6 team. Now, they've looked better as of late and I'm real happy about that because I am a Heckert fan. I still don't think that it is a slam dunk decision yet, although it is looking like it will work out for he and us. Truthfully, I think there is still quite a bit to evaluate and play-out, but it is looking like the JMJs, Skrine, Winn, Hughes, etc. are going to work out. The only two flops I see are Hardesty and Marecic.

Are we calling Colt McCoy and Greg Little a definite success?

Colt McCoy was a value based pick, why not give him a flyer in the third round?

Greg Little was a high upside pick that the jury is still out on. Insane physical tools, just has to put it all together.

Would have said keep him here til he drafted a 29 year old in the 1st round to be the starting QB on a terrible team that is rebuilding.... That decision alone wouldn't make me too upset if he's gone.

Wow, I had no idea he was 29, I wish somebody would have brought that up before!

I can't say definitively on Greg Little yet, but he has shown improvement in recent weeks. Its too early to say though.

Colt McCoy, on the other hand, is a top of the line back up quarterback. And that can be an extremely valuable position. A Charlie Batch type comes to mind. Sometimes during Super Bowl runs your quarterback gets knocked out and you need someone to step in who can manage the game and grind it out to a victory. Those games can be critical in playoff seeding. McCoy is probably the best options for a back up QB in the league right now, and is the reason a lot of teams have shown interest in him.

29 year old QB still has at least 7 quality years, maybe moreso in Weeden's case since he doesn't have 7 years of NFL hits on his body that a normal 29 year old QB has.

If we're still in the midst of this rebuild (Save the "we've been rebuilding for the past 13 years" jokes, I mean the rebuild that Heckert/Holmgren started) after 7+ years, then we had more problems than just "taking a 29 year old QB in the 1st round on a terrible team that's rebuilding"..

No, but we'll probably still be rebuilding for at least 1 or 2 more years.

To which point that 7 year window is shrinking .... rapidly ...

Ok, say you're done rebuilding in 2 years. That still gives you 5 years of play from the guy, possibly more since he doesn't rely on athleticism like someone like Vick. He's a pocket QB who relies on brains and a strong arm. He could lose some of that arm strength, but I doubt it decreases all that much. Also add in him not getting hit. If you don't think he has the tools, fine. The age argument just seems stupid. He won't be able to play for 15 years, but 7-10 isn't too shabby.

Not to mention I'd rather have my QB grow with the young team rather than having a decent team that has to wait for the QB to develop before being successful.

29 year old QB in the 1st that is currently ranked the worst QB in the NFL.

Forgot to mention the bolded.

With Pat Shurmur calling his plays.

Forgot to mention that, as well.

Oh come on, unless you're a total moron you know that stats don't tell the whole story. Like that little stat that the Browns lead the NFL in dropped passes.
