Kendrick Perkins - Canton's Enforcer

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think the point of my previous post is that Perkins does not anchor the defense.

I'm curious why the stats you chose to use about the record setting poor PER were from the 2012-2013 playoffs and not the 2013-2014 playoff, which while not great are far better from the previous years stats that you used. Surely his 2012-2013 playoffs was terrible but it seemed like you used those to illustrate Perk was a husk of his former reputation to the point that he was completely broken down and useless when his number across the board improved for last years playoffs.

Although certainly age and injury has limited Perkins I would also argue that the defensive culture and structure was much stronger in Boston then OKC and that what we have here in terms of coaching, schemes, and players is better than OKC had. So yes, I do believe that in 12-15 minute per game(less or more depending on Mozgovs foul situation) Perkins will be a suitable option for us as the 4th big, but more importantly as the 2nd center.

I just don't think for one minute that Robinson or Blatche would have a better defensive impact than Perk, especially when the vast majority of their career NBA minutes have come at PF, which we are amply sufficient at with Love and TT. I could certainly wrong.

I also worry about Blatche in the locker room whereas Perkins is constantly praised as a teammate and leader by his former teammates and coaches.

Robinson reportedly want to find a situation with a lot of minutes available to him. Hard to see him choosing us then, even if we had had an interest in him.

Finally, and this is said with zero snark and in maximum hypothetical nature, but if we went on to win two or three of the next four championships, would you still feel the same way about our asset management? Are those two seperate tracks(winning the trade/assetmanagment game and actual results) or are they interconnected and ever changing via the filter/viewpoint of time?

Maybe you should watch videos of the Heat vs. the Pacers and the Bulls the last few years. Things ramp up in the playoffs.

Yeah, but Miami didn't have an 'enforcer' and they won those series. Trying to retaliate and getting all into the back-and-forth drama tends to benefit the less skilled team, they drag the other team down into the mud. Keeping your head on straight and making the foul shots seems to be a better way to win.

Perk is there to start shit not to retaliate. You put him in to end shit before it really starts.

Cavs players are happy with the signing. I think Mozgov sums things up pretty well.

Mozgov knows Perkins all too well.

"He's an M.F. to play against, but you love him on your team."

Love:

"I think when Perk gets here, it will give us a different dynamic," Cavs forward Kevin Love said. "A little bit of an edge and more of an interior presence even with the guys that we have."

Thompson:

"If someone hits LeBron [James] or any of us, you know Big Perk is going to be there to reinforce and settle the other team down. That's a guy we're going to welcome with open arms and we're excited to get him here."

Bring him on!

Birdman brought the crazy but Udonis always have been the tough guy enforcer, he's often described as Wade's bodyguard and is widely respected around the league.

We will know whether teams still respect him. If they use a strategy to get Moz in foul trouble to get to Perk, then they dont respect him...I dont think modt teams will do that.but we will see soon enough.

The players dont respect Brenda. Put him in and the other teams bigs are salivating to go inside. You put Perk in, and the other teams bigs are thinking that they are gonna be sore after the game...

Who's mins will he take? Jones, Haywood? He is here as the 4th big and won't be anywhere close to the floor in tight games(outside injury). It is depth and he can help take mins in games like today that is a blow out. Also to compare him at the thunder vs here is not fair. Different systems and will be asked to do a different role.
Haywood gets no minutes at all ,just to stretch his legs.
There's no concern about minutes for Perkins. If you can keep Haywood off the floor thats probably better .
Perkins isn't going to play a lot of minutes but I rather see him in there at times than Thompson having to to face post up centers.

That was my point he is going to get major mins when someone sits out a game, gets in foul trouble or we are playing a team with big physical bigs. In tight game I don't see him getting many mins outside of the 1st half. The best part about this is we do not need anything from Perk if we are healthy.

Cavs are bringing Perk here for potential series against Chicago, Memphis, Portland, and Washington, and maybe Toronto or SA. He's not coming here to play against GS or Atlanta.

LOL at the thought of Pau Gasol vs. Perkins getting into it in the playoffs.

Perkins will fold Gasol up like a piece of paper and carry him around in his pocket.

Too much talking about a dude who will play 5 MPG

Perkins could also be useful if the Cavs end up playing Indiana in the first round. The Pacers are only a game out of the 7th seed and are 8-4 since George Hill came back. There's a decent chance the Cavs would need a bit of Perkins' size and strength in that series.
