Kendrick Perkins - Canton's Enforcer

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Perkins could also be useful if the Cavs end up playing Indiana in the first round. The Pacers are only a game out of the 7th seed and are 8-4 since George Hill came back. There's a decent chance the Cavs would need a bit of Perkins' size and strength in that series.

Ugh... drawing the Pacers, presumably with George back, would be.. um, not optimal for the first round. All this talk about how deep the West is (and obviously they are) but having to play them in round 1 would not be fun. At least we'd be guaranteed homecourt advantage on them- it is needed since the refs call things so differently there. I just really hate the Pacers.. play physical but whine and complain after EVERY call. Do.Not.Want.

Too much talking about a dude who will play 5 MPG

I don't see why he wouldn't play 10 minutes. There's 96 minutes at PF and C to be played.

In an ideal world the rotation would be:

Love - 36 min
Moz - 30 min
TT - 18-20 min
Perk - 10-12 min

There's minutes to be had there, especially when we have more depth.

No reason to run our bigs in to the ground if we have 4 capable bodies who can log time.

Look around the league: Big men get banged up and miss time. One reason the Cavs went draft after draft without taking a center is all the wear and tear a 7 footer goes through, guys like Noel, Kanter, and Len were beat up.

Play Perk minutes to get Love and Moz healthy. Even if he rarely plays in meaningful playoff games, I want to see less of Mozgov and Love in games like yesterday. New York and their tank patrol were taking liberties with Cavs players which could have resulted in injury. That is a perfect Perkins situation.

I'd prefer:
PF minutes
Love to play 30
TT play 18

Center minutes
Moz play 28
TT play 4
Perkins play 16

Not at all. When we need him, those 10-20 mins he plays (bigger teams, foul trouble, inury) will be huge.

He can be the difference between possible catching Toronto in the standings and the difference in winning a game or two in the playoffs.

It takes a team to win, and currently we have no bench player with Perks skill set. And his skill set becomes huge in the playoffs. Especially going against bigger teams like Chicago and most of the teams from the West.

It looks like Detroit and Indiana will replace Miami in Brooklyn as the final 2 playoff teams. Honestly if Indiana drew Atlanta that would be interesting. Hibbert has actually played very well this year and with a healthy PG I would honestly expect them to give the Hawks fits.

I really don't want to play against Indiana in the playoffs.

Agreed. Mozgov is huge and hits the ground all the time. I'd rather seen him play closer to 25 mins actually. He's absolutely fundamental to this team going forward at the playoffs. He's the biggest injury liability we have at the moment. Him and Kyrie.

Gotta watch his minutes very closely.

I don't know his injury history. But his size and the intensity he plays increases his chances.

Depending on Perkins performance, his minutes go from 10 to 15. No more than this. TT fills in for 5-10 min a game.

As good as done...

As expected, Kendrick Perkins has cleared waivers, per source. Contract with #Cavs not yet complete, but that's a formality at this point.

Well, considering the only thing we can offer him is a veteran minimum, the contract negotiations should basically just come down to whether there's an option for next year or not.

One thing to keep in mind about Moz.

Before this season, Moz's career high in minutes was about 1700 and only 3400 for his career. At his current rate of 27 mpg as a Cav, he'll hit 2100 at the end of the regular season. So he'll be 400 over his career high before the playoffs even start. Yes, he is young and can handle it, but having Perk steal a few minutes here and there might not hurt either.
