I was well against the Love trade not because I did not want Love--I did--but because I did not want to give up the record haul that Griffin did for a player who was in his last contract year. No team gave up what Griffin did--check out what was given for Chris Paul or Howard-- in their last year of a contract. Now that Wiggins is playing so well, and Love and the Cavs have struggled, it is even more troubling.
I still maintain that if we told Flip we'll offer him Dion, Bennett and our picks or leave it, he would have blinked and accepted it since Love was leaving and only wanted to come here. No team would touch Love after they realized he would only re-sign here.
Imagine if we now had Lebron, Wiggins, Love and Kyrie. Wiggins is the stretch 2 guard who is a physical freak who can defend and who has stepped up his offensive game so well so quickly. In a couple years, he could be a superstar--all the while on a cheap rookie contract. There is still risk that Love leaves, although I think he won't.
Because of trading Wiggins, we dealt for Schumert who missed more time than Kyrie these past four years and is out again with another serious injury. Regardless, he's not been the same defender since his knee injury and has a limited offensive game and is looking for a big contract next year. We also had to take on a headcase in JR two years to get him. Schumert is not the same defensive player he was before the knee injury and has missed more games these past four years due to injury than Kyrie
If Griffin has a fault, it's paying above or well above market rate in his trades. He's no Chris Grant. I think after the Love trade all teams knew he would blink, causing teams like Denver to just hold out for two number one picks.
Again, this is not an anti-Kevin love thread. I like Kevin and met him after a game two weeks ago and he is awesome, a real person. I just hated what we gave up for him.
I hope the Cavs prove me wrong.
