Shoulder dislocation facts
  • The shoulder joints are the most commonly dislocated joints in the body.
  • Approximately 25% of shoulder dislocations have associated fractures.
  • Closed reduction, without the need for surgery, is the most common initial treatment. Medications may be required for sedation to help facilitate the reduction.
  • Immobilization with a sling is important to decrease the risk of a repeat dislocation. First dislocations are immobilized in an external rotation position. Recurrent dislocations may be immobilized in a regular sling.
  • Early follow-up is important to decide when to begin allowing shoulder motion.
  • Total time of immobilization varies, and balance needs to exist between shoulder stability and loss of motion and function from prolonged immobilization.
  • Uncomplicated rehabilitation and healing will allow return to normal function in 12-16 weeks.

For the average Joe who did it playing football in his backyard.

An NBA star like K Love has access to an entirely different array of healthcare and rehabilitation options. It's really hard to compare his situation to the general public
 
Ok, so from the little I know, dislocated is far better than separated right?

A dislocation can happen without any meaningful damage. A separation usually involves a ligament tearing.

Let's just hope it was a clean dislocation, went back in and can be tolerated with some rest and PT.

Since you brought me back into this I will answer....This has nothing to do with your statement that some guy texted you that Love is going to play 15 minutes after the injury. In fact, it contradicts it since you were so affirmative.

How bad did you let it get? Mine was so bad that by the time I had surgery I couldn't lift a backpack high enough to set it on a table.

Also, its amazing what adrenaline can do for injuries. Greatest form of painkillers.

Much, much respect for Kevin Love right now. If he's able to come back for the Bulls series he'll never have to buy a drink in Cleveland, win or lose. The only thing that's a semi-bright spot was that it wasn't his shooting hand shoulder, but that's it.

The refs let this game get out of control from that moment on and deserve 90 percent of the blame of what happened afterwards. And the last 2 minutes of the game? You can't tell me there wasn't some funny business going on.

F#ck Olynyk. His cheap shot cost his teammate in the end and that's all on him.

I hate that team so much, a dirty talentless team.... all they can do is take cheap shots and make dirty plays for 48 minutes - i'm glad crowder got knocked down he deserved it for playing like a fake tough guy for 4 games, my only wish was that Perkins bit olyniks head off before we finish.

I blame the coach, he wanted to win and he didn't care how so he told his team that the only way they could win is if they turn the game into a wrestling match, douche
