If you haven't read Zach Lowe's piece on the simultaneous death and resurgence of the post-up, read it.

Also, it doubles as a pure manifesto on why you should spend every fraction of a penny you can find on re-signing Kevin Love.

A stretch 4 who has legitimate post up skills AND can pass out of the post is going to be the new NBA gold mine.

If you're not feeling something that's TL;DR, just skip down to the part about Draymond Green and read from there.

If he's not cleared for travel does that mean he has to be driven to NY to see the doctor instead of fly, or is it just that NBA pilots are always banking sharply and doing loop the loops? Do the NBA strippers increase the chance on injury?

We interrupt this pointless speculation to bring you actual BBall stuff.

Saw this article on Grantland by the always fascinating Zach Lowe about the place of post ups in the NBA. I think it's very relevant to a kevin love thread because of all the things that kevin love does well, posting up is in the top three.

Even with his back seemingly hampering his mobility, klove still ended up being something like the second most efficient player in the league, after d-mo Donatas Motiejūnas (if I remember correctly). This bodes well for playoff usefulness imo, because as the article points out, it prevents defenses from getting too tricky with their schemes to thwart the three ball.

Although this last season klove was largely a purely shooting power forward a la ryan anderson, he has always had the ability to punish people in the post when the opportunity presented itself.

To me this really does represent the next iteration of cavs basketball. I don't think the focus should be on force feeding the post, rather the focus should be on quickly exploiting mismatches in the post when they appear. Again, in the playoffs this is much more relevant.

Just some interesting food for thought. This cavs team is getting it done to be sure, but against the teams that will be coming out of the west, a healthy klove will be crucial imo. Next year I suppose.

Poor Francona...
No respect

Indians manager Terry Francona went to the Cavaliers game Sunday night with bench coach Brad Mills.

“He was my hot date,” Francona joked. “That was fun. We had a ball.”

Afterward, he was mistaken for a Kevin Love autograph seeker. Coming back from the game, a tired Francona just wanted to get back to his room.

He happens to live on the same floor as Love and was heading to the elevator at around the same time.

“I’m trying to get into the darn elevator, I’m tired. Some security guy grabbed me,” Francona said, laughing through the story. “He said, ‘Sir, sorry, you can’t use this elevator.’ I was like, ‘Hey man, I’m going to my room. I don’t want his [expletive] autograph.’ Kevin Love said, ‘Hey man, he’s OK.’ So we’re talking, we’re going up, I said, ‘Hey, how come you’re not giving me any security? He’s [Love] not doing nothing.’”

I truly believe that the only way Love leaves is if LeBron leaves. Watch him structure his contract length and options identically to LBJ.

The media wants Love to leave so bad....it's hilarious.

Oh, they are trying so very had. It certainly is not going to happen. Since posters are repeating ad nauseum the media's agenda here, when there is no issue, I don't mind repeating what I've said beforfe: Love already told Gilbert and Griffin he's here to stay for the long haul "wink wink"; he's told the media this and, thanks to his L.A. agent, I've met and spent a little time with Kevin. He's no Boozer. He's a stand up, regular guy. He goes to the beat of a different drummer, in a good way, but that's it. Don't confuse this with being dishonorable. He certainly is not. He honors committments. I know from personal experience he's the last or nearly the last to leave the locker room, but so what. He doesn't do it to try to avoid anyone.

I tend to agree.

I feel that James will opt for max money and years next offseason, and with only one option that would make Kevin Love 31 years old entering his next free agency (with Kyrie being 29).

If he signs an identical deal to LeBron James, that probably will mean he'll retire a Cavalier.

It could be true.....

I'd be saying basically the same thing; in essence, 'I'm not happy with my role on this team, and I'm not here to basically watch you guys win from the sidelines. I feel underutilized here.'

And frankly, there is nothing wrong with this. Folks expect him to make a Bosh-style sacrifice, but people forget that everyone at the time called Bosh a bitch and a coattail-rider for doing just that.

Now, none of that means he's leaving -- I wouldn't leave this season either, especially with a bum shoulder. But it does likely mean he will leverage his free agency this offseason and most assuredly next offseason to make changes to how this team is coached. I say this simply because it's exactly what I would do, whether I intended on leaving Cleveland or not.

My only disagreement is with that piece. While Bosh was blasted for riding the success of his team, Love until his absence was seen by the national media & common fan as the #2 guy and a piece to a championship. Without him, we are not considered to win a championship like we were early on in the season. With our without Bosh, that duo of LBJ & Wade is considered the favorites. Hence why he was just there for the punch & pie.
