This is also key for building culture. Kyrie came here the year after the best player in the NBA said "No thanks" ditched Cleveland. That was an uphill battle we had to fight against from the day he was drafted where he already had reporters asking him if he would one day leave like James.

Wiggins just got drafted, Griffin nailed the coaching hires, and within one week in the organization he sees Kyrie choosing to stay here and wanting to build it in Cleveland. That's a huge thing that should bode well for doing the exact same thing with Wiggins after his 3rd year in the league. Well besides the obvious that Kyrie continues the trend of no player turning down a max offer from the home team on their second contract since maybe Marbury back around 98-99.

There's a long way to go and the turnaround has been slow, but tonight is maybe the first night since LeBron left that you can really look into the Cavs future and feel confident that we are doing things right and have a good run of years ahead of us.

Oh yeah, and Nick Gilbert's Bowtie FTW

:chuckles: It's funny if you picture Wall saying this passive-aggressively.

True, but they already talked about this last year.

The actual signing itself is almost secondary to just how quickly he did it. I never truly thought he would turn down a max extension, especially with what has happened over the last couple months. But, I thought he might make us sweat a little. This is a huge shot in the arm that he embraced it so quickly and decisively.

Think about this guys...we have the best PG in the Eastern Conference (and soon in the entire NBA) locked up until the year 2020. This is a good day for us.

And he may not be an island of scoring on the team, either. That's the best part. Kyrie certainly gets this PR thing. With moves like these I think Cavs fans will have much to like about the present.

So Kyrie might actually look like Uncle Drew when it's time for him to sign his next contract :chuckles:

Huge news! The Cavs went out on the first minute of Free Agency and took care of the most important business in front of them. Even fans who feel like he has a long ways to go need to understand the importance of doing this and especially the importance of doing the full 5 year extension with no ETO and no player option.

Whether Kyrie is a true Max player or not today doesn't matter. He has the potential to be one over the next 6 years. Markets like Cleveland can not get Max guys from other places to come here. We have to identify and draft players who have that elite potential(like Kyrie and Wiggins) and keep them. Well done, David Griffin, David Blatt, Tyronn Lue, and Dan Gilbert. And congrats to Kyrie!

Yeah, I don't think he is a max player, but most players getting paid max money aren't. Like others have said, it is a good sign he agreed so quickly. That should help our image with other players in the NBA.

100% confident Kyrie takes his game to the next level for us this season. We have a lot of talent around him now, a tremendous coaching staff, and he just got paid

It's times like these I wish we could fast forward to the season.
