Mate. I replied to a post that said "looks like the kyrie Irving haters are back" by saying its sad that he has haters in the first place. I wrote sigh because it was yet another post criticising kyrie. I might be a little biased towards kyrie because I started watching basketball and supporting the cavs in his rookie year. I also remember the love he got constantly in his second year and to see the amount of people/cavs fans call him overrated, average, ask for him to get traded just because he had one poor season annoys me. However I understand everyone has their opinions and I apologise if I've come on to strong in this thread.

Dude, it wasn't even anything. You just made a statement and those who "viewed" themselves as hating took it on the face. Those people know who they are. To some of them, the Big 3 in Cleveland is Lebron/Love/Waiters cause before Lebron came back, they wanted to ship out Kyrie and rebuild with DW. :chuckles:

I never demands. asked or state that kyrie should be moved outside of him not resigning at max length contract. to which he did.

Im not surprised though that you would encourage new posters to use sweeping generalizations regarding the posters instead of the content

There are two ways to look at comparing CP3 and Irving.

Who is better? Chris Paul obviously. He is a superior passer and defender, a better leader, and just a more mature player. Kyrie is talented enough to be on that level, but he stops the ball on offense and is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen.

Would I trade Irving for Chris Paul? No. The areas that Kyrie needs to improve are all mental. Effort on defense. Willingness to run offense. Accountability. These are areas that LeBron could easily force him to fix as long as he has Kyrie's respect. Fix those things and he can be as effective as a Chris Paul, although not the same player. He is 22 years old. Paul is 29.

It is the same debate people were having about trading Wiggins, only this time it makes sense. Trading a raw 19 year old for a 25 year old superstar is a no brainer. It isn't a shortsighted move because in 4 years when LeBron is slowing down you hope that 26 year old Irving and Waiters if he is still here, and 29 year old Love are good enough to keep winning at the highest level with 75% of LeBron James.

Trading a 22 year old with proven talent for a 29 year that while better now, only has a few years left on top of his game is mortgaging the future to win now. In 3 or 4 years when James and Paul are both over the hill, the title window is closed.

For all the discussion of how Dion will play with Lebron, I think the bigger issue will actually be Kyrie. He has a LOT to learn to truly maximize his talent, particularly on a team where he is not the top scoring option. And he's been The Man all through his career, he has never had to defer and learn day in and day out, play after play. Not questioning his character but he has a big adjustment ahead of him.

I do agree about Kyrie's potential though. If anything his body and athleticism would lead you to think he could be even better than Paul. Mentally and in terms of bball IQ he is far below now though.

True, but keep in mind that CP3's been the best player on those playoff teams. Any team where Irving's the best player doesn't sniff the playoffs.

If that team's drafted core was Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Andre Drummond instead of who was here, and Byron Scott were still coach... they'd make the playoffs in the East we've seen these last few years. Judging Kyrie's "Playoff Factor" shouldn't even count these last three seasons of tanking, intentional or otherwise.

When I think of Kyrie I think of Lebron and Carmelo their first couple of years.

Both were great with tons of potential. Potent scorers, amazing talents, and poor defense. Lebron worked on the things he was bad at and focused on a team game. Carmelo focused on what he was good at and became a fantastic scorer who can put the ball in anywhere on the floor.

More recently Carmelo has ecome a better defender but his team game is still way behind Lebron. There is no physical reason or mental reason Carmelo could not be a better team player. His passing and physical build are great. He just doesn't maximize these attributes. They started off very similar, but now there is no comparison. I think Lebron is the smarter player, but Carmelo could have taken that Knicks team to the playoffs last year but didn't.

Kyrie is big, quick, and has a very smart brain. He doesn't see the holes in his game. He never says what he did wrong, so maybe he cannot see himself letting guys go by him or missing wide open teammates. I don't know. He always said, "we just fell short for whatever reason".

The good news is he is in a great position where he is no longer better even than the vets on the team. He has a template to push himself to the next level. I for one hope it works out. However nothing is guaranteed, and we know talent is not always optimized in the nba.

lol, I got neg repped for that reply... CMON dogg. You could have replied to me here, whoever you are. If Byron was just here to collect a check, then what was Mike Brown here for?

I wanted to see what would happen in a non-tanking situation with him. He's been good elsewhere, just with better teams.

And if you're mad about a slight to whichever players, speak up. I think those guys would have been better for a playoff push alongside Kyrie because of his style of play. Those guys were who I would have drafted after Kyrie. None of those guys alone are winning playoff games, esp. Drummond (as the Pistons suck ass), but put them together with a guy of Kyrie's caliber? Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit. Klay alone has made Steph Curry a better player. Drummond + Varejao would have been nasty. MacLemore isn't really good now. I can't think of who would have been a better pick. Maybe Noel, if the Cavs were patient. I wasn't upset with Bennett because that draft sucked, the Cavs weren't picking any other position that high.

Even more so, anyone but Mike Brown including Byron Scott would have been better for a playoff push. Judging Kyrie as a guy who can carry a guy to the playoffs based on 2011-2014 is some bullshit. I would have the same thing about LeBron 2003-2006 if it didn't happen. there is no way those '11-14 Cavs squads as constructed make the playoffs, even if another star (without asterisks) was on the team. that chance dips even further with Mike Brown coaching a team that young. Not nearly enough of the "right" kind of vets on that team for them to be effective.

In any case, we'll get our chance to see in a few years, whether Kyrie as the focal point can hack it, for real. The Cavs were such a mess I don't think it's fair to judge him by those standards yet. I agree with the sentiment that he has absolutely no excuses. And he absolutely sucks at defense.

Neg...repped?

Did not know such a thing existed.

Apparently, some lucky people have that super secret special ability.

The problem is this is a collection of good players but not a competitive team.

you discount Drummonds good fortune of being surrounded by veterns players that allow him to just focus on what he is good at (although the coaching staff did start taking steps to expand his game) and Klay Thompson is in an ideal situation.

it takes more than talent to win in the NBA.

I really don't understand the point of playing the "what if" game any more. Sure, mistakes were made in drafting the past few years, but look how we ended up. We got LeBron. We're getting Kevin Love. We're going to be one of the best teams in the league. Who the fuck cares about what might have been any more? We won, and we're finally in a position where we can stop playing the stupid hindsight game!

Krzyzewski knows he's going to change up his entire game plan because of Durant's decision. Much of Team USA's strategy, especially on the offensive end, was based on Durant's presence.

"We had the whole team building what we were doing around him," Krzyzewski said. "In everything, because you have really one of the great scorers at the four. So how does that change your offense? It changes your offense immensely."

Who does the offense shift more towards now? Is Kyrie the next best offensive player? Is Cousins going down for such a crucial gameplan readjustment period going to affect the growth of his role? Is the PG position the deepest on the roster with Kyrie/Rose/Curry/Lillard?

where's this kyrie?
solid shooting form
good basketball decision
and tight flashy handles
