Wait, what just happened here? I love myself some curry(especially Thai curry on rice), but I fail to see what he, or the yummy dish has to do with being excited with how well kyrie is playing. Help me out here.

Someone mentioned that Kyrie was playing the best ball of any PG in the league. Randymoss pointed out that Curry is still playing, thus Kyrie is not playing the best of any PG in the league.

I've watched about 7 GSW games on League pass. I can't say Kyrie is playing better than Steph, but he is playing at a level that is getting close. He is an All NBA talent.

Curry is out of his mind this year though.

Gs has had a cupcake schedule fwiw. OppOnent should be taken into consideration

8. Irving has been terrific defensively, and after covering him through his first three years in the league, I never thought I’d type that. Irving used to say all the right things and never follow through. Now he’s following through. I wrote about Irving at length in the last edition of final thoughts but he opened up on his defense more Saturday night than ever before.

9. “I’d rather help other guys and be in a position to help and stop my guy instead of the other way around and always being that guy on film,” Irving said. “I was on film a lot the last three years. You get tired of it after awhile. You want to be that guy your teammates trust on day in/day out basis.”

10. Irving is staying in front of the ball. He’s refusing to get screened. Although he wasn’t credited with a steal, he batted away at least one pass Saturday that resulted in a Pacers turnover.

11. Blatt has referenced Irving’s time with Team USA last summer at the World Cup as a big reason for the defensive change. Irving agreed Saturday, saying he did some self reflection and came to the conclusion that if other teams were scheming to stop him, why couldn’t he attack other guards the same way?

12. “Why can’t I be a great defender?” Irving asked. “It’s all about effort. My first three years it was making excuses of offensive burden and all this other stuff. At the end of the day I have to do it for the greater good of our team. In order for our team to win, I have to be that guy on the defensive end. You can only talk about it for so long. At one point it just has to be done.”

13. Irving is getting it done and is arguably playing like the best point guard in the East, at least so far. He’s leading the conference in scoring, he’s seventh in assist/turnover ratio and he began the night tied for third in steals (24).

14. Irving is really focusing on steals this season – he mentioned it again Saturday – which is good and bad. It’s great he’s focusing on a defensive stat, but most guards in the league will confess steals isn’t a great barometer of defense. Going for steals and whiffing often leaves a guard out of position and forces the defense behind him to scramble and cover. At least thus far, that doesn’t seem to be happening much with Irving.

I love Kyrie's effort these last couple. I said a long while ago that I thought with a chance to be on a winner, the effort would pick up, and it appears I was correct. If he keeps playing like this, we will be a tough team to beat for anyone.

As for steals, they'll come, but playing D isn't about getting steals. It's effort and position, he's definitely getting after it, and while Love hasn't been too bad, he could learn from Kyrie's effort level.

Kyrie's improved effort on the defensive end has a ripple effect on the SG position. Previously, we had to play someone who could cover KI's lapses on opposing PG's. Now that KI can cover his man, our SG doesn't have to have that level of quickness.

I thing Delly may end up a great fit there because he's a plus defender against everyone but the very quick PG's. He really gives us everything we need at that position.

Curry has like 4 years on Kyrie. If Kyrie keeps this up he might just be top 3 players in the NBA period in 4 years.

I'm as surprised as Lloyd. I didn't think he had it him to sort of admit he didn't put forth the effort these past seasons and he's playing great now that he is. He's really guarding the passing lanes well too which puts a ding in those fast break points for the opponents.

I'm firmly back in Kyrie's corner.

I think kyrie focussing on steals is a good way of reminding him to get his hands up and stay awake on the weak side. He hadn't gambled that much, the team as a whole are playing in a scrambling style with one guy leaking out anyway.

Kyrie has really turned the corner defensively this season. At the start of the season it was just more of the same, but he's really started putting in the effort out there lately. Great to see.
