Larry Sanders Show anyone?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It would take a hell lot of cap gymnastics to get it done by the deadline (due to AV extention) and the team would probably need to establish an entire psychiatrist dept. Personally, I would be against it but I can see this trade going down for Haywood's contract this offseason.

I don't know what Varejao's extension has to do with possibly trading for him, unless you mean that the team would then have two multiyear $10M+ contracts devoted to centers...

Real GM's Trade Checker says that Waiters/Haywood/Amundson works for him, but I am skeptical of their math. This summer, a deal would obviously only require Haywood's balloon contract.

Regardless, I think there is approximately 0% chance the Cavs trade for him. That's too bad, because skill set-wise, based on his play a couple of years ago, he'd have been a good fit. But of course without the baggage, he wouldn't be available. Which is your point.

By giving him an extension, we can't trade him for 6months (April, in this case which is after the deadline). He would have been an expiring with a perfect $ amount for a $10mil player trade, not just Sanders. My guess is the FO/DG have long decided to make Andy a career Cav.

While I don't want Larry Sanders, I do think people need to come to terms with the fact that he is the "type" of big that Haywood contract will land in the off-season.

NBA teams don't trade or essentially "give away" product wart free bigs for salary cap relief, which is all the Haywood contract and a pick will provide.

Every team needs them, and you can never have enough of them when it comes to productive bigs.

When I see people talk about landing a big in the offseason it seems like there is going to be alot of disappointment around here when people realize the level of quality we can realistically land to fill the center spot.
YES. said this a few times lately. some high caliber center isn't going to come waltzing through the door this summer when the haywood contract blows up to $10.5M non-guaranteed. even adding something like dion or the memphis pick isn't going to move the needle that much. people also ignore the salary implications too - if they use the haywood contract, it makes retaining both dion and tristan essentially impossible.

but, re: sanders, i'd consider it if this team were older, more mature, and more experienced. but, they're essentially the complete opposite. almost the entire top half of the roster hasn't even played a truly meaningful nba game ffs. to make matters worse the guy with the ridiculous list of experience and accomplishments is acting like a petulant child. could sanders work in the right situation? maybe. is cleveland that situation? seemingly not.

Would the answer still be no if the Bucks used the stretch provision waiver on him and we could sign him with the DPE?

i'd gladly take him, one of the best shot blockers in the league. I hate it when people dismiss players because of off the court stuff as if these guys are criminals.

I don't think the possibility the Cavs will be able to use the Haywood contract can be completely dismissed. There are always teams trying to clear capspace during the summer -- the Cavs for instance this past summer, and the Cavs obviously had to include assets. I mean, it's likely that whoever the Cavs can get with the Haywood contract will have some negatives, but we always sort of knew this. Also worth noting that Boston now has a sizeable (~$12M) TPE via the Rondo trade, so the Cavs may have some competition in their efforts to use Haywood.

Have the Cavs actually ever been able to use a TPE or large expiring? What, once in the last 10 years and all it got us was Jamison? I don't have a lot of faith that we'll ever end up trading Haywood.

Generally around the league, I think most TPEs go unused (not sure about medical exceptions). That said, It would be a major failure by Griffin if we don't end up with a good piece for the Haywood contract this summer.

I mean, if you don't count the charges of disorderly conduct, assault and battery, and the violation of the NBA's drug policy that caused him to be suspended, then you're right, he's not a criminal at all.

Yea let's pass on Larry Sanders who fills our biggest need for another high character choir boy.

Jimmer Fredette?

You have to take chances, if he is waived using the stretch provision the Cavs should sign him. Who knows maybe he could be our Birdman.

It has very little to do with being a "choir boy" or not, and everything to do with the fact that his violations keep removing him from the court. Is that the kind of guy you really want here?

He smokes weed, gets suspended, and then publicy said he's not sorry about it at all. Then he gets in a bar fight that breaks his hand and he's out for months. Then when he finally comes back, he's out of rhythm and soon after, practically out of the rotation.

Sounds like a real winner.

Oh, and he makes $11 million a year so he would require nearly all of our trade assets to acquire.

No thanks.
