LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
http://dimemag.com/2015/01/report-lebron-james-hurt-time/

While LeBron James has put up similar numbers to year’s past, when he claimed four MVP awards, the explosiveness he’s known for and his high-flier act has only come in small doses this season upon his return to Cleveland. With the news he’s shutting it down for the next two weeks to rest an aching knee and back, coach David Blatt was asked about his star player’s health, and admitted James has been battling injuries longer than most even knew.

Kevin Love is returning tonight, which is good news for the Cavs since James will be in some snazzy outfit on the sidelines.

As for the James criticism, Blatt was pretty clear the ever-so-slight downgrade in James’ numbers this year can be partially attributed to wear and tear. James has played more games than any other player over the last half decade, and even Superman retreated to the fortress of solitude from time to time for some R&R:

“A lot of things were said, you know, unfairly,” Blatt tells Chris Haynes of the Northeast Ohio Media Group. “The guy has been playing with a lot of pain or some pain and we just decided enough. Let’s shut him down. Let’s take care of the problem. Lets get him back to feeling 100 percent.”

The pain for LeBron isn’t something new it seems. James just turned 30, and the ravages of time are starting to show themselves. James’ shooting, specifically, but also his defensive effort, have been wanting this season. He can get lazy on the defensive end, and stray from his man in an effort to help out elsewhere, but without his normal ability to get back in time should his man break free for a look.

James’ 25.0 player efficiency rating is his lowest since the 2006-07 season, despite it being the sixth best in the league, and he’s shooting his lowest percentage (.488) since the 2007-08 season. Perhaps it’s the injuries that are to blame:

“Honestly LeBron hasn’t felt 100 percent for some time and he’s been toughing it out and he’s been giving us everything he has despite some discomfort,” Blatt continued. “It was exacerbated during the Miami game [on X-Mas Day] and from that point forward, obviously we looked at this thing in a different way and decided together with him, that the best thing for us to do was try to attack this problem straight on and allow him to heal completely.”

With Love back tonight when Cleveland faces the Charlotte Hornets, andKyrie Irving back from a two-game absence last week because of a lingering knee issue, the Cavs will have two-thirds of their trio on the court. While missing their best player will certainly hurt them, they need to keep pushing it after going 5-5 in their last 10 games.

Whether the absence of James elevates the play of the other stars remains to be seen, but Cleveland better hope the time off gives James what he needs to resume his commanding performances on the court.

Will two weeks off help LeBron return to his MVP form?

Why can't the guy just be hurt instead of all these conspiracies? Here's hoping he'll return to form and lead us like he can. Just have to hope we can go at least .500 in his absence.

I truly believe he's injured, and that is the reason for the 2 weeks off. No other conspiracy, or fake excuse.

He's injured. He's using these 2 weeks off to rehabilitate. Good for us in the long run.

Hopefully he returns to MVP form.

Actually the full text he put under his instagram post is pretty encouraging:

"Hate being away for the teammates(really sucks!!) but it's time I listen to my body, my trainer @mikemancias1, the team and the docs finally, get healthy and back to myself! Day 2 of rehab. #NoFunWithoutHoopsandHomies #RehabStinks #StriveForGreatness"

Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but I think LeBron threw his little tantrum hoping to affect change, and it spiraled so far out of control, culminating in that crazy YouTube video thing, I almost feel like he's, not backpedaling, but maybe backing off.

Like, once things took such a furious turn that half the NBA world was convinced he was ready to bolt, that he stepped up to actually address the media and do damage control.

I don't think he planned to speak at all, and I think things spiraled outta control. He was getting more blowback than he thought he would. After Wednesday's game and his comments about not leaving, he's suddenly been active on Social Media again, live tweeting the Buckeyes game, instagramming about how much he wishes he was with the team on the road.

Something changed. If this team can settle itself, get Love in a rhythm, stay .500 or better over the next two weeks, it might be enough to let this thing die for now and everyone just settle in and play ball, literally and figuratively.

@bob2the2nd

I think you are either in denial or a bit behind on information in here, most likely the latter. Frankly, I was more in agreement with you for a while.

There is absolutely someone who could take over right now- Lue. And there is someone who could come in and take the job next year and whom LeBron wants in the job anyways.

Firing Blatt would damage Gilbert far less than losing LeBron in two years would, or even dealing with LeBron sabotaging a coach all season. At least that's the way Gilbert likely sees it based on all of his previous decision making as the Owner/GM of this team.

What he SHOULD do is tell LeBron to fuck off and play with the incredible hand he's been dealt.

Whether he'll make the right decision or not is anyone's guess.

i guess my thought is why do we think he would listen to lue if he isnt listening to blatt?

but absolutely gilbert needs to tell lebron to put his big boy pants on, and listen to blatt

FWIW, on Windy's podcast he said he's not even sure Lebron will be out 2 weeks. He thinks he could maybe even be back by the Kings game (Jan 11).

He thinks that the Cavs just decided that A) he needed rest after being so banged up and it was time to just let him heal for a little bit and B) announcing that it was two weeks rather than the day-to-day, will he or won't he play, type of thing eases the players minds to be able to prepare without him.

This makes sense to me. His back is still and issue and combined with the knee. LeBron is started to see he is human and not handling it well. If we want a healthy team I agree rest him when you can. This should all work its self out in the end. I am more worried about getting Love going like using him right and getting his confidence back.

No, Stereo, you echoed what I was thinking and I said yesterday it seemed like he was backpeddling once all this got out and forced him under the microscope again.

That part I'm not sure of. But I'd think Lue would only be temporary. My guess is that it's more that he wants Mark Jackson than that he doesn't want David Blatt.

Perhaps if Lue had been the guy that was hired instead of Jackson, he'd be facing the same issues.

Who knows if LeBron is aware of what type of coach Jackson even is. It's a power play thing IMO to have the organization under his financial control to an even greater extent.

Lue for the rest of the season, Jackson for next season. The Jackson/Paul thing is to suspicious...

If LeBron leaves, he will not be remembered favourably historically. He lost all leverage the day he said i'm coming home.

is the whole HGH discussion taboo within the media? I am surprised that nobody has latched on to this angle. It seems pretty relevant that we're seeing some physical deterioration of certain NBA superstars as testing for HGH is more in the spotlight. I heard Windy's podcast and several times he made mention that Lebron's rationale for losing weight was suspect. He never outright said it was because he stopped taking HGH but I have to believe this has a lot to do with it.

Because you don't accuse the NBA's darling of HGH. It's been pretty obvious for years he was juicing. Suddenly the year they are going to test for it is when he loses weight, goes back home where the media WILL keep his secrets. Blah, it's all been so obvious.

His powerplay backfired in his face, now he's backpedaling to save face.

This dog and pony show has already gotten old.
