Moving the goal posts one foot at a time.
Don't worry, when this team ends up with a single win w/o LeBron, maybe, just maybe, you'll admit you might have been wrong about this whole "they'll be better w/o LeBron" kick.
Haha injuries to Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, Shawn Marion and trades where Dion goes and three new guys join the team is moving the goal posts?
Pointing out the Cavs are better without LeBron when LeBron is playing in "chill mode" really strikes a nerve in people. It's blasphemous. People can't even let their minds go there.
Would the Cavs have lost against Orlando if Tobias Harris hadn't called LeBron out?
Here's an interesting quote:
"Then after the game, when he was asked multiple questions about his relationship with Dwyane Wade, James shoe-horned in this comment that he clearly wanted to get out whether it fit with the questions or not:
'The question I have that’s kind of been bothering me sometimes: When a player decides to decide his own fate, there’s always questions about it and why this guy did that. When an organization decides to go elsewhere for a player, it’s they did what’s best for the team.' Wade said something similar at practice on Wednesday, so perhaps this was orchestrated. But I don’t know anyone who would disagree with James. He’s absolutely correct."
NBA teams tank all the time. They lose games on purpose with the goal of improving their future position. The New York Knicks are tanking right now.
Do I think an NBA player would feel some moral dilemma tanking meaningless games in December and January if he thought it would change things to be more to his preference for the remainder of the season? I don't.
If it were me, I might do the exact same thing. It doesn't mean fans have to like it and it certainly doesn't mean his personal preferences are the best ones for the team.
No matter what happens, sooner or later LeBron James will consistently play like LeBron James. There is no way he's going to waste an opportunity to be the first guy in 50 years to bring a championship to Northeast Ohio. It's legacy defining and it's personal.
