LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I have a theory that Blatt has been trying to reduce Kyrie's minutes of late. Tonight he never brought Irving back out in the 4th and just left James in a few minutes more. I'd like to see James more around 32-33 mins/game but it's worth noting that James is averaging 36.2 mpg, which is easily the lowest mpg of his career. He was never below 37.5 in Miami.

Generally Blatt has been trying to control James' minutes.

How much of that is controlling his minutes and how much of it is the Cavs blowing teams out more frequently than when he was in Miami?

Why do you think playing 35 minutes is a big deal?

Not only is 35 minutes not much at all, they were 35 easy minutes. He hardly exerted himself in the second half. The Nets basically layed down after the midway point of the 2nd quarter.

Beyond that we only 8 games in the next 21 nights, which is about as light of a stretch of schedule as you will ever find in the NBA.

In other words, take a deep breath, calm the F down, and find something more important to vent about.

Exactly. I read a 32 minutes suggestion lmao... What is he now, Kobe?

He wants his averages.

Lebron is tied for 4th in mpg (KI is 2nd). There are only around 15 players in the league averaging 35mpg or more.

I don't know how Miami managed his minutes, but his first go-round in Cleveland he would regularly play the entire 1st and 3rd quarters. If the Cavs suffered a run while he was out in the 2nd his rest would be cut short. If things didn't go well in the 3rd Brown would often play James the entire 2nd half. There were a lot of 42-44 minute games.

Blatt has been rotating Lebron out regularly in the 3rd and 4th. If the Cavs play ok he'll leave him out a little longer than usual.

I mean, it helps to have blowouts and 28 minute games, but there haven't been a lot of 40+ minute games for Lebron the past few months which imo means pretty good time mgmt. Even in the close games Lebron has gotten some rest. In SA he was at something like 43 minutes but that of course included the OT.

Found a stat that might be of interest. Prior to the all star break James was at 36.7 mpg. Since then he's been at 34.8.

The 35 minutes tonight isn't really a concern for me. The time that he was in the game in the 4th, he hardly exerted any energy.

My main concern is getting him some rest at the end of the regular season so that he can be fresh and 100% healthy going into the playoffs. This goes for Kyrie and Love as well, and to an extent the other rotation players. Ideally LeBron's last regular season game is April 8 against Milwaukee, which gives him 9 or 10 days off before the playoffs start on April 18/19. Winning out until that point would be huge to give a cushion over Toronto and Chicago. If the Cavs beat the Bulls on April 5th, that would give the Cavs the tiebreaker over both Toronto and Chicago if records were identical at the end of the season.

Why did LeBron not call for a pick on that last possession? Between this and Blatt benching Timo when Cavs needed his length on last defensive possession, feel like we got away with one tonight.
