Lester Hudson Leaving (signing with Memphis)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As I recall, I used the word "if" twice, with subsequent conditionals throughout the paragraph. Don't know how you missed that. ;)

Well, your "if" included a "Which I doubt..." That is what my response was to.

If the Cavs weren't going to offer anything more than a contract to finish out the season the rest of this year, then of course Hudson made the right move to move on (played with Memphis before, it's his hometown, he has a shot to play in the playoffs if Arenas/etc. are hurt, might get seen by more teams in the process).

It surprises me that the Cavs didn't lock up Hudson for the rest of the year (as they did with Sloan) when they had the chance after his first ten-day contract. That short-term decision was strange to me. But I don't think the Cavs made a bad long-term decision yesterday. He also hasn't played as well over the last 10 days. I imagine they offered to keep around for the rest of the year (why wouldn't they?) but when they wouldn't make further guarantees, Hudson had a much better offer waiting (at least in the short-term) with Memphis.

As someone said above, it wouldn't be surprising to see him back fighting for a job with the Cavs somewhere down the road.

one thing is clear - Memphis owes us a first round pick for this obvious tampering. :chuckles:

Board is hitting a low when people are upset over Lester Hudson leaving.

It's Lester Hudson. Lester. Hudson. Guy is shooting 39%, and this is like the best he's ever played in his career.

You joke but I wouldn't doubt that the Cavs looked into it.

6 page thread on this? Slow news cycle.
It's Lester Hudson, who cares. Let move on.

I was so thinking the same thing. How does a 27 year old jouneyman guard who shot 40% make a 7 page thread because he signed with his hometown team somewhere around page 3.

Same way the other d-league guard got around 15 pages as the team's 15th man. Not much to talk about really that hasn't already been discussed ad nauseum. The draft can't come too soon.

The guy stands to get some playoff checks out of this. The decision, for him, is a no-brainer. Good luck to him, hopefully he tears it up.

Article basically says Hudson wanted a guaranteed contract for next year and Memphis gave him that. I can't blame our FO for not committing $850,000 and a roster spot to an undersized 2 guard who's a volume shooter and doesn't play defense very well. Good dude, no doubt, and provided some entertainment for a couple weeks, but clearly not part of the future at all.

♪Fun times in Cleveland town everyone, we can't even keep a d-league play-er.♫

Re: Lester Hudson Leaving?

Wow. I am not going to cry about it because the guy is 28 already, but come on. How do you have Luke Harangody and Semih Erden stuck on this team for 2 years but Lester can't?

Uh..no matter how bad the Cavs suck those two suck even worse..that should tell ya all ya need to know.

Still don't feel this is any loss at all. Never bought into any Hudson hype. It was a nice brief story in a tough part of the season for fans. That's it. Have zero problem with Cavs not giving guaranteed money to a player who has been crap his whole career and doesn't exactly play a winning style for a good team.

Jason Lloyd
Also In Cleveland Sports
Just spoke to Lester Hudson's agent, Keith Glass. He was a bit turned off when Cavs only extended Hudson for a second 10 day contract, rather than sign him for the rest of the season. "The word is leverage," he said. "I guess they had the leverage 10 days ago and we had some yesterday." Hudson signed with Memphis today, will be eligible for postseason since he was not waived by Cavs

More from Lloyd:

More from Keith Glass, agent for Lester Hudson: "If 10 days ago, they had just done what I thought they should’ve done, which was guarantee the rest of the year, he would’ve signed it and been there." Cavs didn't offer any guaranteed dollars for next year, Glass said, but offered a non-guaranteed deal similar to what Donald Sloan and Manny Harris signed. Glass/Hudson weren't interested in that.
