Let it all out. The Cavaliers Rant Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Grant didn't want to sign Jack...there is only one person to blame for that and he can't be fired. It's the same person that was responsible for us signing Bynum.

So much misplaced hate on my part. For some reason I considered Gilbert to be completely ignorant of anything basketball and that he just signs off on recommendations from the GM. I didn't peg him as someone who would walk into the GM's office and say "I hear Bynum is available, go sign him".

I guess part of me didn't want to believe that the disfunction started at the top. That we could turn things around with just a front office change, but this year has def shown that to be the case.

What a depressing revelation.

I'm all in. Don't care where we stand as a team. Still will support them until they're no longer here. I see a sliver of hope but I don't know where that hope is coming from. All I know is Dan Gilbert isn't exactly a saint with the rebuild plan but he learns lessons and applies them. Once he see his plan isn't working, he'll adjust it.

He better have already adjusted. There is not room or time for learning on the fly at this point. Unless you want to just blow it up again and trade away the young guys we already have drafted. If the team looks the same next year (record wise), the fan interest (attending and watching games) for this franchise (and honestly the participation on the forums) will be at all time low. Expanding Browns and Tribe coverage may be necessary for the long term health of RCF over the next 4-5 years, if the right moves are not made this off season.

clearly you forget how low it was before LeBron was drafted. That season before LeBron, average attendance at the Q (then the Gund) was 11,496. Only 3 basketball games sold out. The two times the cavs played Michael Jordan's wizards and the game LeBron's St Vincent/St Mary's played in Cleveland.

By contrast, this year's average attendance is 17,297.

I did not forgot. Honestly think there is a danger to go down to that level if the team is stuck in the low lottery for another season. They are slowly losing the casual fan already, and the die hards and season ticket holders are not far behind. Difference is we have tasted what contending Basketball feels like, and it is beyond depressing to think that those days are long gone and that this team has little hope to make that jump back into a true contender in the next 3-5 years (not saying I feel this way just yet, but another failure of a season would be put me there.)

Yes, as great of a job as Ben and Admins like Wuck have done for RCF, this forum would suffer if the team continues to blow draft picks and not play meaningful games. That is the cold reality of the situation. When the team plays poorly over an extended period of time, less people watch, and less people go online to talk about the team. You can only get excited for the draft so many damn years. Franly I am sick of waiting ( I have about a year left in me, before I stop devoting time watching and following the team closely. We have not played a meaningful game in 4 years now. It is sad that the most exciting days are the trade deadline and draft days, and the rest of the year is just filler.

WARNING EXTREMELY NEGATIVE POST but extremely honest criticism.

^It's a kick in the balls because we can now really understand what kind of player we lost in LBJ. He was that transcendent of a player, we were lucky.

We're lucky enough to get Kyrie, is the same 7 year situation repeating itself? Better yet are the Cavs going into years 3-4 of Kyrie's young prime, and we still haven't gotten the proper talent around him. It is factual that we missed out on many key draft opportunities along the way.

I agree with Bennett, that's the way the NBA is going, but Tristan Thompson? Kinda just hoping that one PF will work out in the end. We should have been fuckin around drafting centers instead, if that was our mentality all along. Certainly one of Valanciunas or Drummond would have worked out in the end.

Instead we're swinging for a home run on a PF prospect. There were no 6-10 LaMarcus Aldridge prospects in those drafts, so why fuck around drafting power forwards?

If they always had their sights on LeBron James, why did we keep drafting power forwards? That's going to ultimately be his position as he ages; and the other 4 positions should be filled with the most skilled players at their respective positions. That's how to maximize James. Get Kawhi Leonard on his team, get a DeAndre Jordan or Andre Drummond on the same team as LeBron James.... tell me what happens. Put some shooters around them, and bingo you're contending for a championship.

Miami never had any of the caliber athletes from my aforementioned group, and yet the Cavaliers could have drafted every single one of those guys minus Jordan. It's a compounding Karma, when you make that one mistake, then everything else falls out of place, perhaps we wouldn't been in the same position years later, but maybe we could have snagged Oladipo to put into that group as well, or we could have burned many of our assets to get Bradley Beal, who will ultimately be a difference maker in a series with his shot making ability.

As good as you might think Waiters is, the entire franchise really started spiraling downward the moment we passed up on Drummond and took Waiters instead. Is he worth the headache? If you are getting D-Wade, absolutely; but just there's no misunderstanding here, Dion will never be as good as Wade.

So do you implement the feisty player who is the center of attention, tough, not really level headed, and is an on and off type of personality? Was that a great idea? Perhaps we should have interviewed him first instead.

The Cleveland thing to happen is that everyone is freaking out, we're ecstatic, they're about to burn down Bar Louie, but little do they know they just won the #1 pick in the most god-awful draft I can ever remember.

Then, the GM does exactly what Bill Simmons predicted and that's come out of left field with a bizarre pick. Many people felt that same way about the Tristan Thompson pick, and there's still many fans bitter that we missed out on Valanciunas.

I'm most pissed that we didn't end up with Valanciunas or Andre Drummond!!!! We literally could have taken both, but somehow we ended up with Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters. Yuck, I'm tasting bile coming up.....

Then, Anthony Bennett ladies and gentlemen. I am excited about the kid's potential, but if last summer you could have given me a peek into the future, I'd once again feel nausea coming on. You couldn't have asked for a worse start, and the worst 1st coach you could ever play under!!! And that's irrefutable.

The problem is the combo of coaching + drafting + free agents. That is what worries me. We need to be excellent in one or two of them, but we have shown disappointment in all three levels and so i really dont know how we are going to fix this issue.

You way underestimate how bad things were in 2003. We aren't even remotely at that point. Look at the Q tonight. There are way more than 11,496 at the game. The last 3 games we had 18k plus fans, including a sellout against the heat. An average of 11,496 in 03 means games like tonight would be well under 10k fans at the game.

Playoffs or no playoffs, I'm not sure how you watch the heart this team has shown lately and get bored with the team.

theres noone in the draft the lastt 3 years that would have this team playing better now. we are talking about wins not stats. there was only one way to win with kyrie right away and that was to bring your hughes, snows, z's and boozers. Cavs chose not to go that route instead choosing to develop an entire roster of youth.

Inexperience is the number 1 foe to the cavs build and now they are starting to fill those holes..Cavs will be better next year. we can see it. but dont pretend drummond or whatever flavor of the month you want to pick would have this team with a better record this season.

We have not played a legit big game (truly meaningful in terms of the standings) for 4 years. Plus none of the daft picks this year have had a chance to develop properly. Jack scoring 30 points (a player the team will desperatly try to trade in the offseason) vs New York is not something for me to throw a party over. I would love to know the rate of season ticket renewal for next year so far. Nice to see Waiters show some development, but still not clear he can play this way when Irving is dominating the ball. Bottom line is there are still some major major problems that need to be fixed to avoid a major drop in attendance and fan interest for next year.

For what the Cavs got out of AB this season, it will be interesting to watch what Noel does next year with Philly.

You could have made an argument that we played a series of big games earlier in the season when we were still in the playoff chase. The series of games against Memphis, SA, Charlotte and NY all had meaning in my opinion. We blew it by losing all of them and got unlucky with injuries, but we were legitimately in the playoff race playing important games. Perhaps this isn't what you meant by meaningful, but it qualifies for me.

Qualifies for me too. We've played plenty of big games in this season. Most notably when we decided to make a hard playoff push after we acquired Deng.

we were 14-15 games under .500 in early March, and that was a playoff push?. Now if we win these next 3 games and ATL loses 3, now next weeks games I would foir sure consider meaningful.
