Luka Doncic

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So how tall is he? shorter than Cedi? his arms also look shorter.

But...he plays say bigger than Cedi so im not sure. Its not just the size; it seems like he shoots over defenders with ease. I remember when he backed down Porzingis in the Eurobasket and shot a hook shot over him with great seperation.

I've lost track of sources now, but I'm pretty sure he's 6'8" with a 8'10" standing reach. Wouldn't be surprised if Cedi has a 8'11" or even 9'0" standing reach, but 8'10" is still good size for a modern PF, especially if he's around 240 pounds which by the looks of it he is.

More importantly, though, he uses his size well. Overpowers smaller defenders to draw fouls, and gets loads of defensive rebounds. Even though he's not overly quick on the perimeter, he knows how to use screens and play like a guard which'll make him a tough cover for opposing PFs. Doncic/Jordan P&R's with three wings spacing the floor will be fun to watch.

8'10 is Kevin Love size.

I agree. I think he will be a tough cover for PFs and PGs. I think PFs will have to switch every PnR he is involved in, and he is going to need to show that he can excel as an isolation scorer against Centers--this is why I think that improving his quickness and getting leaner will actually do him good.(despite your affection for his love handles)

Against PGs id like to see him play bully ball from the lebow and orchestrate the offense from there.

Obviously I believe that he will punish teams that decide not to switch every damn time. As a rookie he will enter the NBA as one of the best passers...perhaps even the best for someone his size.

Doncic finished so much better in Europe than Cedi. I feel like he has much better layup package as well as an underrwted leaping ability and extension. Cedi lacks finesse and a vertical which really hurts his efficiency. While he most likely wont become an elite leaper, im quite confident that Cedi will improve his all around finishing ability.

Doncic is a ridiculous prospect. Its unheard of someone that young to have such advanced stats in the Euroleague. Heck, its unheard of for anyone, no matter how old...and certainly for a perimeter player.

I think his handle more than anything will give centers (and many PFs) trouble. I expect a lot of broken ankles into stepback 3 highlights this year, even if he isn't very efficient on that shot right away.

Yeah, he has that Harden package.

I just dont know how efficient he is going to be off the dribble. His 3pt percentage was iffy in Europe despite the great mechanics.

we will see..if his shot becomes great than he might not even need to become quicker.

I think it's fair to say that his 3-point shooting off the dribble could be the "swing skill" for his career. If he's hitting those shots consistently, we're seriously looking at an MVP-type trajectory for him IMO. If he's not, he may be more like a rich man's Kevin Love, a regular all-star and occasional all-nba 2nd or 3rd teamer, but never quite good enough to be the #1 guy on a contender.

His willingness to back down smaller defenders is awesome, something players with good size and skill should always do, but mostly they do not. Him doing it so early in his development is exciting IMO.

I just don't get the people that think that Doncic will be a career bad defender like it's a given.

I'll bet anything that Doncic is not only a net positive career defender, but will also be a net positive defender in terms of DBPM and even DRPM in his first season.

He is an excellent team defender, he can move his feet well for his size and he protects the rim with verticality and is always at the right place in terms of rotations.

He is a bit too heavy right now and still out of shape. But dude, what a blunder by the Hawks and Sacramento lmao.

Luka's handle looks pretty tight. He's very crafty. That compensates for his average speed.

Hot take: If Fultz which is looking likely regains confidence in his shot and translates his UW form he is a bigger talent.

Let me say no to this. Fultzs form is so bad he would need to start from scratch

Anyone else really impressed by the defense Doncic was playing against the Sixers? His shot wasn't falling, but he was still making a big impact. He could very well be a two-way player, and not just an offensive genius as was advertised prior to the draft.

He is and will be a two way player.

Advertisement was trash.

I watched game in China today. Doncic looks pretty slow, average pace and quickness.
I see "bulk up" doesn't work well for him. He should lose weight.

His shoots were also hardly reached to the rim.
Maybe it's just effect of short 3 point line in FIBA.

That 76ers starting lineup isn't a friendly welcome to the NBA for any rookie...I thought he had a respectable game even though his shot was off. Sloppy preseason ball, everyone was turning it over.

Don't think he'll struggle defensively, especially at PF. Not many PFs will even try to take him off the dribble, and he clearly has the size and strength to hold his own inside.
