MAC Football 2014

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's really odd that BG will probably start the year 2-2 like I honestly expected them to, with a win coming against a B1G school rather than Western Kentucky.

Hate starting the MAC on the road, though, coming off the Wisconsin game. Seems like such a trap game.

Good luck to the rest of the MAC now!:chuckle:

what a great win for Akron at Pitt today. The majority of the same Pitt team that ran all over BG last year in the bowl game. Watch out, MAC.

Great win for Akron, especially after being thrashed at home by Marshall last week. If they take care of business against EMU and Miami at home the next two weeks they'll head to Athens 4-2.

I'm aware you said majority, but Tom Savage and Aaron Donald are pretty big upgrades from what Pitt has now, the latter being the main reason we lost by three.

As for BG? The defense doesn't care about covering wide receivers and it's hard to watch. Knapke has moments of being absolutely wonderful and making you ask who Matt Johnson is, and being just god awful and saying Matt would have never made that throw. Track meet football every single week.

I was really surprised how UMASS played BG. Not sure if its a testament to UMASS or BG just not being as good.

As for the bowl game, I thought Voytik played the majority of it?

MAC picks for the day:
Zips over EMU
Ball St over Army
UMASS over Miami in the toilet bowl
CMU over OU
BG over Buffalo
NIU over Cant St
Toledo over WMU

BG is really, really frustrating. Absolutely gouged on the ground, yet somehow the defense comes out of halftime and puts on easily their best half of the season that was really reminiscent of last year. I'm almost to the point that I think the defense just needs time to gel in their new roles and with the new strategies, but I honestly don't think we have time to wait. Dino lucks out again, but honestly won't luck out the whole season. We aren't Baylor fast, or Baylor good, so his overwhelming want to "score one more" than the opponent is going to bite him in the ass so damn hard, really, really soon. Somehow, an offense that should be putting up HUGE yards like they did against Indiana is struggling to do really do much. With Burbrink, Moore, and Lewis we should have been able to throw all over today, because as far as I recall, it didn't rain and it wasn't our awful BG wind.

Clawson was completely inept and got bailed out by an incredible defense two years in a row. Babers is just... ugh... I hate to say it, but he really doesn't seem to care relatively ever. He jokes around way too much, and the thing that we honestly need with such a young team (for the most part, mostly sophomores and juniors, not too many contributing seniors on offense) is a coach who's intense. He's too fun. He cares too much about sexy video game mentality, and when it gets REALLY cold here (I went to an October BG v OU game my freshman year when it was like real feel 12º because it was that windy) we won't be able to stop the run or score enough points. Last year we could just destroy teams by controlling the clock. I honestly don't think our offense is even capable of doing that. Honestly don't know how long he'll last here, because while a nice guy and while he'll probably compete every year, I really don't think the fanbase cares for him as much as they did Clawson, who was legitimately a good person and a very, very good interview.

Utterly shocked we won, will continue to be every time we do. Third win when the opponent scores 35 or more. This is not sustainable, and should have been corrected already.

I really like the way this schedule is shaping up for Akron. They sit at 3-2 right now, with four should-be wins - Miami, Ball State, UMass, and Kent - in front of them. The remaining games are against Ohio, Buffalo, and BG...they're all winnable, although I'd be shocked if they actually did win them all. 8-4 is a real possibility, which would be incredible for this program considering where they were pre-Bowden.

I had them 7-5 assuming they went 1-3 in the OOC. Well they went 2-2 so now my expectation is 8-4. I see them probably losing a game they shouldn't (UMASS and Miami scare me for whatever reason) and winning a tougher game they shouldnt (BG?!),

I randomly ran into a couple of BG alums last night at a bar. I was waiting for my beer to be poured and I heard this couple mention BG. Struck up a little conversation. Don't see too many Bowling Green alums in Charlotte, so it was pretty cool.

Akron gets another victory and moves to 4-2, 2-0 in the MAC. The remaining schedule:

at Ohio (3-4, 1-2)
at Ball State (1-5, 0-2)
vs BG (5-2, 3-0)
at Buffalo (3-4, 1-2)
vs UMass (1-6, 1-2)
at Kent State (0-6, 0-3)

A 7 win season is absolutely within reason, if not better. Terry Bowden has the Zips headed in the right direction.
