Managing minutes/lineups for this team...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
PG: John Lucas (32) - Matthew Dellavedova (12) - Kyire Irving (4)
SG: Joe Harris (28) - Dion Waiters (10) - Mike Miller (5) - Ray Allen (5)
SF: James Jones (41.5) - LeBron James (6.5)
PF: Dwight Powell (38) - Tristan Thompson (5) - Anderson Varejao (2.75) - Kevin Love (2.25)
C: Alex Kirk (24) - Zydrunas Ilgauskas (24)

Thoughts?
you dont think Z would get more minutes to make sure he gets all the rust off

I would guess LBJ plays 35+ minutes a game. I don't believe he would have to play that much for the Cavs to win most games, but I think he wants to be thought of as the greatest ever. At this point in his career, he may want to pile up personal numbers along with championships.

Hey, on the bright side, this lineup would help get us our third straight #1 overall pick!

You forgot to list Shawn Marion as the 3rd string point guard:chuckle:

Err...why is Love only projected to play in 69 games? Is Pelton expecting him to suffer a mild injury?

I think Pelton is averaging the games played over last couple years to get that number.

Looks like opening night starters will be:
  1. Kyrie
  2. Waiters
  3. Lebron
  4. Love
  5. Varejao
And if the preseason game against the Bulls, it looks like the bench is:
  1. Thompson
  2. Marion
  3. Dellavedova
  4. Miller or Haywood, depending on the matchup
Here's some info about Lebron's minutes

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2014/10/david_blatt_39_minutes_for_leb.html

Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt suggested the 39.5 minutes per game LeBron James is averaging for his career would be too many for the team's superstar this season, at least in the early going.

"I don't have a number but I am cognizant of the fact and we are conscious of the fact that, certainly early on 39 minutes a game is a lot," Blatt said following practice Sunday. "We gotta keep our wits about us in terms of thinking long term with LeBron."

James is the NBA's active leader in minutes per game and ranks 6th all time. He averaged about 38 minutes per night in his four seasons with the Miami Heat and last year logged 37.7 minutes – sixth-most in the league.

seems simple for lebron.. first 8 minutes of the game. last 8 minutes of the 2nd half repeat 2nd half. adjusted by foul situation.

Unless he is being rested, I think Miller will be in the regular rotation, and if for whatever reason he doesn't play in a given game, very probably either James Jones or Joe Harris (unless he is in Canton) will, or Ray Allen, of course.

Haywood will play against certain teams in certain matchups.

Amundson will play garbage minutes or occasionally will fill in for injured players or if the Cavs have bad foul trouble or during difficult stretches in the schedule or when the team is flat and needs some energy. He'll probably get in more games than people would guess.

Caveat: All of the above is just my opinion, of course.

Vardon's article states LeBron has averaged 39.5 MPG across his career, but the more operative stat is the number of minutes he has played per game in recent years, which is as he points out more like 38. He averaged 37.7 last year even with Wade sitting out 33% of the games.

I think shooting for no more than 37 MPG should be a goal. Some on RCF have thrown out numbers as low as 30-32 MPG, but that's just not realistic.

32-35 minutes is not realistic how? if the gal is to reduce his minutes shaving off a minute doesnt really do much. shaving 3 minutes is a huge difference.

Youve got three guys who can lead the team for 16 minutes a game

I feel either KYRIE and Love should be on the floor or just LEBRON. At no time should neither be on the court. Also Dion should be in with one of them. I don't even wanna see Dion and bench like we did in preseason. If anything I'd say whatever happens, Lebron and Dion should play a lot together and Kyrie and Love. Idc how the bench is sprinkled in. But when we start resting guys Id like to at least keep those pairings

Every minute helps in terms of the maintenance. Now you are saying he'll play between 32-35 minutes? Big difference between 32 and 35. 35 might be plausible.

This isn't the San Antonio Spurs and LeBron isn't a 38 year old Tim Duncan. Plus, I imagine he wouldn't mind winning another MVP, and playing only 32 minutes would suppress his raw per game numbers, which weighs heavily with some voters. When is the last time an MVP played only 32 MPG? In 1997-98 when Jordan was 34/35 (his last MVP year), he averaged 38.8 MPG. The examples could easily be multiplied.

no i am saying 32-35 minutes. 32 minutes base was an example fof how his minute could be managed. last i checked . I am one person.

now your jsut nitpicking. but one would expect Lebron would still have 38 minute games so he would need some 32 minutes games to average out around 35 to 36.

it doesnt matter how old other players were when their minutes are reduced. What matters is that playing a lighter load is a goal of the coaching staff and they have the roster to do it.

Everyone who coaches would tell you they don't want Lebron over 35 a game, but when it's needed he'll play those minutes. I still expect us to play him around his career average of minutes, because we simply won't gel that fast. Now next year is when I expect him to be able to play less minutes

Game 1, and the Cavs play Lebron and Kyrie 43 minutes each, while Marion & Miller barely saw the court. Not a good sign. At least Varejao stayed under 30 minutes.

I think that is because they used this as lets get to know each other and hope to win. Also Blatt tried to get to cute with the theme. I like the idea I wonder how it will translate from now and forward.
