Manny Harris

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

you guys seem t forget how well mychel thompson did in his 5 games of d league. Manny is also 23rd in scoring average .

Ron Howard. Jeremy lin Andre emmit. Justin dentmon are all more efficient scorers than harris

He is just getting his conditioning back I would imagine. I'd like to see what he can do again. He has NBA quicks IMO

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Obviously, the Cavs had an arrangement with Harris to play for Canton. Whether there was a promise made is doubtful. But, nonetheless, the Cavs have to determine just how much they want Manny because he is drawing interest. And he has done things in the NBA that Thompson has yet to do: score 20 plus points 3 times with a career high of 27, shot over 37% from beyond the arc and had a scoring average of 11.3 ppg as a starter.

I would hate to see Manny enjoy success elsewhere after the Cavs have invested all this time in him. Thompson may or may not make it. He has a nice stroke but he never shot north of 40% from the field at Pepperdine in his 4 years there. If you compare resumes, I'll take Manny.

If the Cavs decide on Thompson, I guess we'll have to turst their judgment. But, they asked Manny to go to Canton for a reason. And he agreed for reasons of his own. Now, decison time is near and the Cavs need to try and get this right. After all, this is team without one wing player averaging 10 ppg. Seems to me that is reason enough to try and make a good decision.

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

It's pretty much a Thompson vs. Manny decision and I although I understand the initail view (due to Manny's injury?), I have to believe Manny would be a better stop gap right now (injuries). Unless we have something else planned to get a better SG soon, why not waive Thompson and give Manny at least a 10 day. How much would that really cost us?

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Another solid game for Manny as the Charge fell to the Austin Toros. Manny finished with 21 pts (8 for 15), 7 rebs, 5 asts and 4 stls. The big blemish on the night was 7 turnovers. Scoring average over the last 10 games 20.6 ppg

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

yeah the charge needed a player to replace mychel thompson who was their leading scorer thats why canton signed him. all the guys on the cavs cut list are signed with canton

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Manny scored 46 in a 135-113 win tonight.

Is it time?

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Dayum.

I want to see what Uzoh can do though.

^Rhyme.

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Uzoh's 10-day contract expires on Sunday. We'll see what the Cavs decide after that.

Re: Manny Harris gains steam down in Canton

Reed, Boyer @PDcavsinsider

Former #Cavs guard Manny Harris registered 46 points, 9 boards, 6 assists, 4 steals in Canton Charge win tonight. He was 17-of-30 from field

I say that the Cavs hold on to Uzoh because:
1) They'll need Uzoh after they trade Sessions
2) Keeping Uzoh off the market drives up Sessions' trade value
3) Manny's a good kid & plays hard but he doesn't strike me as being a long term solution for the Cavs. He's not a good enough defender or shooter to pair with Irving.

Agree that they need Uzoh after they trade Sessions but I really don't know what else Manny has to prove. He obviously agreed to go to Canton at the request of the Cavs. The Cavs have a gaping hole at SG and the only wing player near 10 ppg is Gee at 9.8. Seems to me Manny fits the bill. Is there any future in Anthony Parker and his chronic back issue? Boobie, of course, can play SG but gives up 3-5 inches most nights. Gee has been a godsend but his ball handling, though improved, still needs work and may be a better option at SF. Why not see what Manny can do for this team? It is not as if he is going to cost an arm or a leg.

Here are his season stats at Canton: 20.5 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.6 spg, 45.9 fg%, 86.4 ft% and 39.0 3p%. The Cavs said they wanted to see if Manny had improved his game over the summer. Looks like he has given them some evidence that he has.

Now that he has posted a 46 point game, he will be getting interest from other NBA clubs, I suspect. The Cavs will have to either fish or cut bait, at some point.

I agree. At this point, I think Manny deserves another look to see if he's going to be able to transfer his current success to the Cavs. I'm guessing we'd have to cut someone and Harangody is about as good an option as any, imo. I haven't seen his salary, but I can't imagine it's much of a hinderance. With Boobs and Parker both out, I'd love to see Manny get a shot at 15 mins/night for the next 10 days. If it works out, sorry Mr. Parker, but you're ridin pine, as you represent absolutely no piece of our future. Parker actually could represent a decent throw in/salary matcher for a contender as part of a larger trade if it came down to it. He can still hit some shots, and provides veteran presence and an expiring contract.

Here are his season stats at Canton: 20.5 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.6 spg, 45.9 fg%, 86.4 ft% and 39.0 3p%..

Now look at these NBDL stats: 19.8 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.0 spg, 2.0 bpg, 46.8 fg%, 81.8 ft% and .486 3p%.

Those are Mychel Thompson's stats. Putting up good numbers at the NBDL says very little about someone's ability to be a solid contributor in the NBA.

Harris perhaps can be a solid rotation player in the nBA, but putting too much stock in these numbers is silly.

The NBDL MVP's from the last seasons are:
Curtis Stinson ('10-'11)
Mike Harris ('09-'10)
Courtney Sims ('08-'09)
and then you have Markus Fizer, back in '05-'06.

Luke Babbit has also great NBDL stats, so there's that...

We've already seen enough of Harris on the Cavs last year to know he is a better player than Thompson. And it's not like it costs us anything. In a season like this one, you have to be sure to not leave any stone unturned, imo. Manny showed enough flashes of potential to get a second look, imo.

Fair enough, as long as the expectations are realistic. Thompson's number show that scoring close to 20 ppg in the NBDL is possible for many players who will struggle to score in the NBA.
I think Scott's emphasis on D is what's keeping the Cavs from signing Harris.
