Masterson to the Cardinals

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When you're drafting a guy out of college at age 22, it's not that surprising that he's 24 in AA. He's in AAA now and should be a candidate to start the season next year with the Indians.

Masterson was doing nothing to help us this season and honestly wasn't gonna be worth offering the QO to in the off-season.

To get anything for him right now is a plus.

Sort of an unfortunate end to Masterson's time here and I wish it didn't end this way.

But it is what it is.

Ramsey looks solid though.

Eh, fine with the return. This is what happens when the guy you are trying to deal has a terrible season and is on the DL up until the trade deadline. Ramsey looks at least serviceable, which cannot be said for the Indians' OF denizens in the high minors. What will be interesting is to see what the market is for Masterson in the offseason and if the Tribe is in it. I am no longer predicting that sort of stuff since it changes year by year, but he could be a one-year bounce-back deal kind of guy.

Understand the trade but still sad to see him go.

Understand the trade but still sad to see him go.

At first I was sad to see him go too, but the ideal scenario would have been that he pitched his way to the ace status that he wants to be paid like, and the Indians would have a firm grasp on a playoff spot because of it. That didn't happen. Justin Masterson is a big, big reason the Indians are only a .500 team right now. He didn't perform and we're certainly not paying him now, so he had to go one way or another.

This deal makes a lot of sense.

Deal a guy who is struggling for the best prospect anyone was offering. This gets us out of a contract which should allow us to possibly add major league talent within the next 24 hours as well.

Somebody tell me how to feel about this.

I feel irritated. Not because of the trade in and of itself. I'm from canton living in northern Indiana. Masterson went to bethel college 10 minutes from here with a great friend of ours before transferring to San Diego St. We were going to our first, second, and third tribe games of the year this weekend with our friend who played at Bethel with Justin. We were going to go out to eat this weekend with Justin and his wife Meryl. Opportunity to go down into the clubhouse after each game. Rare opportunity...Lost. Slightly irritated from a personal standpoint.

Team side it completely makes sense. He was on the last year of his contract with no guarantee of re-upping next year. Get what you can for the position your team is currently in.

Still slightly annoyed....

Yup, plus fans are such hypocrites. Can you imagine what the reaction would have been if coming off a trip to the playoffs, they got rid of Ubaldo, Masterson, and Kazmir in the same offseason?

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>1 evaluator said Indians essentially traded Masterson for Naquin. Ramsey/Naquin have very similar numbers over 3 pro years. Ramsey more pop.</p>&mdash; Jordan Bastian (@MLBastian) <a href="https://twitter.com/MLBastian/statuses/494600209687928832">July 30, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Thoughts on this, b00bie, or anyone else with knowledge of the prospects?

Good trade for the Tribe, something is obviously wrong with Justin and him not signing that contract was a big win in the long run, and we get a decent prospect, good job FO! Now, trade AsCab and get some pitching!
