Masterson to the Cardinals

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

1 evaluator said Indians essentially traded Masterson for Naquin. Ramsey/Naquin have very similar numbers over 3 pro years. Thoughts on this, b00bie, or anyone else with knowledge of the prospects?

I don't claim to have nearly as much knowledge on the topic as b00bie, but at first glance I thought of Naquin as well.

I don't like Naquin that much at all beyond a situational outfielder, I think Ramsey has much more offensive potential especially to the opposite field.

Much better patience at the plate too, IMO.

I mean, whatever. To be expected, he's been ass this season and we weren't going to pay him.

Masterson struggled as a player but he is one classy human being with a healthy attitude about life well beyond that normally encountered in the higher echelons of athletics.

"You appreciate what life brings you and you try to enjoy it the best you can," Masterson said on his way out after being traded Wednesday, "because if you get too troubled with it, then you're not going to be able to enjoy what's going on and life was meant to be enjoyed."

"You can't worry about too much of your future," Masterson said. "We're not even promised tomorrow."

I wish the Tribe could have gone after Cespedes

What would they have had to offer?

And secondly, what is one-year of Cespedes worth to this organization?

Most folks probably don't know that Cespedes is a FA after 2015. Or that for all that power the guy has been a sub.800 OPS guy the last two years- less than Nick Swisher last year. Does Abreu have the same clause in his contract? Would be shocked if he doesn't.

Serious question - could Masterson be next year's "reclamation project" for the Indians?

He's continued to struggle with St. Louis and looks like he'll end this year poorly. The long-term deal he wanted might disappear. The Indians will be looking for a veteran to add to the rotation. Would a one year, $10 M deal work for both sides? And would it be a good move for the Tribe?

Yes and yes, IMO

Yes and yes, IMO

I agree. I don't see him turning it around in St. Louis, which I think will kill him getting the deal he wants. And why not if you're the Indians? $10 is the going rate for a decent vet starter and they'll clearly need one.

I guess the question then becomes...is Masterson the best pitcher you can get for $10 million?

Probably, especially on a 1 year deal.

I really don't see the point of that. Either he struggles like he has been, or he does well and leaves again after that one year.

Yea, I wouldn't give Masterson 10 million unless his velocity is back up.

Captain hindsight thinks that 2 year/22 million dollar contract for Kazmir looks like a bargain right now.
